Looking great Andrew. This axe is a beast. Gonna look super slick with the hardware installed!
Cheers,
Gav.
nice job Andrew, your builds continue to improve
Thanks gents. Agreed on the hard tail point but I don't have a fr axe or a 7 string so here goes. I'm expecting a hard tail 27" quilted maple topped 7 soon as well. That thing will be tuned down to E, so e,b,e,a,d,g,b.
Thought I'd share this as well. Just an a4 sheet of acetate paper, print your design for a logo mirrored on the sheet, cut it out being careful not to touch the ink as it won't dry on plastic. Place it on to bare wood, no paint or clears or it won't work. Tape it in place and use a credit card to run the ink of the sheet onto the guitar.

Wow! that looks awesome!
nice job on the ink logo Andrew
Did you design that man? Really sweet.
looks great after a clear coat. Is this 2 pack from the spray gun Andrew ?
So, that black is just the toner from a normal laser printer transferred from the plastic acetate sheet to the wood?? I used acetate sheets back in the day for overhead transparencies, but the toner seemed to stick to them and didn't come off? Any trick to this - could you explain further?
Cheers,
Gav.
Mate it's an inkjet. Maybe the laser jet ink dries on acetate, not too sure. This was printed with a scrappy $30 Canon inkjet printer.
Nick, it is just a font I found mate, I'm not that clever
Wokks, yeah Mate, 2k out of a .8 touch up gun.
Couple more clear coats and I think she'll be done.

its gleaming in the sun well done Andrew,
this paintjob would be perfect for Maxaxe's redback build but no doubt he already has plans for the paintjob ! haha
He's probably already sacrificed the goat to the gods of unearthly guitars for the finish. :P
Digging this build man. Reminds me of the really early Ibanez RGs in the 80s.
Thanks guys. All done now, just to let her dry.

looks great mate. Pity the logo goes over lighter and darker maple of the scarf joint.
Hope your having fun, while I'm stuck here at work !
Yeah matenits my turn to pretend I'm a luthier today. Maybe one day I'll get then hang of things. About the logo, I kind of like that it goes over the join. Preferences I guess. I've got some clear water slide paper coming hopefully this week which I'll take to my printer and see if he can print white on it. His printer does white but it's a large format sign writing thing and he doesn't know how it'd go printing a4.
Very creative with the Label there Andrew, Another way to do it a little differently is to reverse print onto normal a4 paper with a laser printer , then use the wife's (partner...mum boyfriends etc) cloths iron on a lowish setting, place the printed side down and iron it onto the wood. I used to do that with balsa wood for making out wing ribs etc. A similar method is also used to make custom printed circuit boards before you etch them. (that is for home made circuit boards.. before home CNC became affordable..)
Super brief photo update, got the small amount of orange peek the hell away and this is the result of 5 minutes of polishing on my break at work today.

looking nice and shiny Andrew. Now that is dedication polishing your axe during a work break !
Looks beautiful mate. Can't wait until it's all together.
Thanks lads. I'll be honest here, getting a bit nervous about the stock trem. Have seen some guys high e refuse to stay clamped. Is there a direct replacement that will fit the stud spacing on the 7 string? Hope it all works.
There's heaps floating around on eBay man. Or Guitar Center has one at a good price (if you want a more reputable source, and don't mind shipping).
That's a dazzlingly effective finish happening on the bod.
Should be the alpaca's knackers when it's all in one piece.
P.S. my Redback won't be nearly as flash as this one.
Thanks max. Pretty sure your beast trumps a shiny paint job. I mean, it's got fangs. I haven't got fangs. Don't think anyone else here has fangs except you mate. Fangs > shiny paint.
Looking great Andrew! That's a deep shine you've got yourself there. She's looking better and better with each update!
cheers,
Gav.
Nice paint job looks awesome and love the logo work.
Just a question on the logo, can you stain over it without anything coming off .
Thinking off many applications for this.
Thanks mate but I broke it by being a tad over exhuberent while polishing. Nothing serious. Researched a technique called flow coating so I'll give that a crack. Happy though caus with just polish chewed the clear, black, red, silver down to the primer so at least my paint is thin. Couldn't give a rat's though as today I found out I am going to be a dad!
Congrats on the Parenthood
Tim, not too sure mate. As far as I know inkjet ink is water based so a water based dye could melt it, or a solvent stain could also shaft it. But this one has 2k clear over it no stress and the Tele has tru oil which is a bit more scary. You need to let it dry over night before tru oil or it will smudge. Ask me how I know.
Thanks buddy.
:D Congratulations!! :DQuote:

Congratulations. Simultaneously the most rewarding and terrifying thing you will ever do.
Pabs, I'd be a lier if I said I didn't have a panic moment. The gravity of it all still hasn't sunk in yet but needless to say we're pretty stoked.
Bud, you'd be a fool not to panic a little. It's a truly life changing event. I wish you and your wife all the best. :)
congratulations Andrew on the coming baby, won't be long and you will be building a uke or 3/4 sized axe with your daughter/son
Thanks mate. I spoke to the boss even before we found out and said I want to build a cloth covered 3/4 when we find out the sex. So a girly pinky floral fabric or a cool blue one depending. Kind of like babies first teddy for a guitarists kid.
Congrats Andrew! That's awesome. What Pablo said..!
cheers,
Gav.
