I’ve been a bit slow of late so haven’t got a lot done, and I am finding that because I am making it up as I go I have to make decisions that may or may not create problems later in the build. So every decision seems to take forever as I try and second guess everything that I do.
But I have started routing out the 3 piece body as best I can, trying to anticipate any future problems and will try and get it glued together in the next few days. Once glued all the major decisions will have been made and hopefully it will be full steam ahead.
This is the back of the guitar and I am cutting out the recess hole for the pre-amp. The other access hole you can see is for the remote 9v battery.

With the front of the guitar I have to be a bit more careful as the pre-amp nearly goes though the full width of the body. I drilled a lot of "depth gauge" holes so make sure I didn't go too deep.

Then roughly finished it off with a chisel. Its hard to tell from the photo but there is only a few mm of wood left before I break through the front. Whew!

nice work Westie, you do a great job with coping saw, hand drill and chisels. That pine cracks and splits so easily. Well done not going through the bottom

The problem with Robins builds is that he puts all sorts of ideas in my head that I don't have the skills to pull off.
That doesn't stop me putting them in the "for future reference" folder however :)

hey Dedman you can achieve anything you want with a build. You just need the tools, spare time and practice. Think you would be surprised what skills you could pull off if you tried

it's the tools and the work space I lack mostly.

easily fixed Dedman, have a clean out of your shed or garage and build a decent size workbench. I built my workbench with a pine frame and mdf top.

I have a big steel work bench and another wooden one, the wooden one has all my ammo loading gear on it, the metal one became my packing bench. Thats the prob when you work from home, the garage became the storeroom and I still have to squeeze a car in it.

Warren’s right. No special skills here, just a lot of spare time. Just the basic tools and a crappy patio table and a B&D workmate saw-horse.
