Oh! Happy New Year!

Do I need 250, or 500k pots?

Happy new year, belated a bit ;-)
Good question about the pot values. The originals used 250K, but the standard wisdom is to use 500k with humbuckers. I always think of Hofners as having a bit of a muddy tone without much high end. The pots may be part of that. Not sure how close to the original pups the kit's pickups are though.

Conventional wisdom seems a bit unconventional . I too have read that generally 250k for single coil and 500k for humbuckers, yet many humbucking basses use 250k pots. I had read this has something to do with maintaining the treble. I've seen wiring diagtrams for both Seymore Duncan and Bartolinni humbuckers using 250k pots , and Rickrnbacker use 330k pots which seem to actually read closer to 500k. The Ric pups are single coil I belive. If you are going to scrap the original circuit board and use independent pots then you could just try 250 and 500k and see what sounds better to *you* . I'm sure @Simon Barton will chime in.. he seems to the the resident wiring guru.
Well, I'm guessing that these aren't humbuckers. Lol. Looks like a single coil to me. Knowing that, I'll go VVT with it. Nothing crazy.......... unless I pick up some humbuckers........ save that for later...https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e66a021ddc.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...736cbde47a.jpg

They look like the mini humbuckers I have in my FBM-1 build!
Just little 2 wire jobbies? I look through the hole in the corner of the mounting plate, and see only one winding. Is there a way I can check it with a multimeter?Attachment 42242

They're certainly humbuckers. Not splittable for sure. Going to be thinking on this one tonight while sleeping.

I have humbuckers with only hot and ground wires - so that is not a problem.
Sorry but cannot help with a multimeter check:(.
