I don't normally have the imagination to name my guitars but thanks to your little one this is going to have to be called Simba :)

Everything fits nice and snug, neck quite tight but all looks to line up nicely when I checked with some thread through the bridge and tuners.
Man, that looks good with the gold fittings, and I'm not usually a fan of those. Are you tempted to reconsider the cherry stain? That might be something else just with a plain lacquer or a trace of yellow/amber stain.
Its a shame the kits don't come with the offcuts from cutting the top so you had something to try effects with, but I guess something as special as that one isn't going to come up too often.
I know what you mean. Red is in most circumstances the right colour for the 335 shape, and if I wasn't scared of stains and colours full stop my ESB-4 would certainly have had a cherry stain. Some cliches are cliches because they just work, dammit. On the other hand if there were going t be an exception...
I'd be tempted to go with amber. Because of the dark grain in the wood, cherry's going to come out a lot darker than on a plain maple top, so if you want it to look cherry, you'd need to use a lighter shade of red. Amber will also go that bit better with the gold fittings and provide more contrast for the grain.
Have you checked for any glue spots yet?
Checking for glue spots is on the agenda for this evening Simon.
I think between you, you have convinced me to go with an amber finish!
It's your guitar, so just make sure you're really happy with the idea. But if you are, then simply make the next one cherry with chrome hardware.
Correct! Always fancied an LP Junior :)
Slight issue now is that Wudtone have a compatibility chart on their website (which I had never noticed before!) and the actual amber stain is listed as incompatible with maple so am considering other options in the yellow ish range. May even go clear on the top and a stain for back and sides
