Verrry Nice. The colour is great!
I know you liked the superstrat color better, but man, that blue looks great with the pickguard and hardware on it. Sort of a Shelby Cobra vibe ;-)
thanx fellas, I'm Not really a blue guy so I did it the same way as I did the green Tele, its candy cobolt blue over dark blue metallic. Over a silver base its a lot lighter more towards a purple blue range, I was rustling around in my paint cupboard and had a 1/4 tin of dupli color blue so figured id see what it looks like, thats the great thing about candy's and pearl mica flake you can come up with so many great colours no one else has and guitars are the perfect partner for candys & pearl I quite like a well done white pearl,
I was trolling cashies web shop last weekend I've got 4 of them all no more than 4km from my house, they got a few les Paul's and a couple of squires and a couple of Ibanez, I want to have a look at everyone of them are black whats with buying boring black, I don't usually buy squires as the bodys are too skinny I like a thick fender body they all look like they need refurbishing and price is right ill go check them out I did ask them could they send me some pictures but my nets been down so only got them tonight so I might buy all of them
ok this 1 is a keeper I've put an Ibanez neck on it and I've moved the bridge down 5mm to get the scale length I've used a roller bridge, a purple pearl and what I did was put the last of my candy apple red in it to take it more towards the red side its actuallya a solid color not a tint, this isn't finished as I've run out of cutting paste and its more me goofing around I dropped a bit of hot solder on the back so this could get re done again as its 1 of my keepers so if its not a 100% it will bug me to death till I fix it, I haven't had any internet till 6 o'clock today been down for 3 days it was the NBN not my ISP as I'm on a Fibre line at 1000mbs I hate slow internet lol
I've got a Kramer neck and neck plate and some other bits and pieces i found tonight looking through my parts boxes I might do a EVH strat 1 of the black and white I'm a bit of an Ed fan, RIP Ed

Wow, I don't blame you for making that one a keeper.
I always look at your posts last. It's like dessert ;-)
Don't dismiss all Squiers as they are not created equal, I think you'll find the higher range ones have the correct body thickness, my CV Thinline certainly has a nice thick body and I know the Afinity range is, shall we say slim
yeah I know Dave their are some as good as a fenders but I'm no squire expert, I'm looking at 2 squires atm I'm looking for a Strat to put new pick ups in a HSH which is for myself, I've got a Tele, les Paul, super Strat, I'm buying another les Paul and another Strat to put some good stuff to, theirs a Squier Strat California Series and the other I'm not sure what it is but I'm going to go check them out on Tuesday or Wednesday it will be my main 24/7 guitar so I looking for a full size 1, every time I play a Strat it feels right if that doesn't sound silly I've been looking at 1 of those artist Strat that Peter Northcote demos which sound really good also, I'm not 1 of those snobs who think you got to get an American I think anyone from anywhere can build a guitar, the best guitar I ever played was a LTD FM650 the worse 1 was a tobacco 2001 Gibson Les Paul it cost me $4500 new I've not come across anything i liked as much
@fender lol
hey folks I went and checked out the 2 squires 1 I think was a very old bullet with those cheap machine heads and the california was a full size but they wanted way to much for it wasn't worth my time, while I was there I thought I would see what else they have they had 2 Les Pauls a black one and a white 1 the black one had some body swell and the white had a bad scratch on the back but every other thing was mint so I went on a shopping spree, I grabbed the 2 Les Pauls which will be keepers as have some big plans for them both, they also had a full size Strat which was in great shape but it was white pearl but the 2k clear on it was very yellow I've popped a couple of pics you can see the yellowing where the pic guard was so I've got some white pearl so I might keep it white its a keeper and the blue 1 will be a give away.
once I finished looking their I figured id go to another cashies I have 4 with in 4km from my house I picked up a amp head and a 412 cab its a Behringer V-Ampire Lx1200h 2x60watt stereo or 120watt mono they have 2 amps built in, I've heard good things about them and was mint condition and under 400 bucks, another I picked up on line a Line 6 Amplifi-Tt Amp Multi Effects desk top processor I was checking them out on ebay but $300-$500 is what their asking use to have 1 but sold it when I got sick, while trolling cashies online shop they had 1 reduced $279 to $79.99 and broardmedows in NSW near newcastle i think so I jump on it cost me $26 for express postage which unit arrived today and its in as new condition so I've just got 1 more guitar to find an ESP LTD FM650 won't be easy me thinks

finished all cleared just wait a couple of days then ill polish it, I've striped the black les paul I'm just going to try sand out the bad spots and just touch up the black then ill re clear it with 2k I have 2 HSH Pick guard in white pearl and tortuous shell, and got a heap of SSS pick guards im thinking either the white pearl or antique off white or black for those interested everything has been done with supercheap rattle cans primer, silver, clear and green done by spray gun

Amazing what you can get out of a rattle can. I haven't seen "Supercheap" here in the US...and I've not had good luck with Duplicolor, which is what I can get.
sorry fender supercheap is an auto parts store here in Australia its probably the largest, I don't use Duplicolor i think their a rip off, it is harder with rattle can for sure there are 2 ways you can use the most important is the clear theses days I like to use 2pack or acrylic lacquer if your not good with the ins and outs of how to spray paint 2pack use acrylic lacquer. I don't know a lot of brands in the USA but Rust-Oleum is ok but any Acrylic Clear 400g can will do the job, you just got to know a couple of things 1 you always use a sanding block, you spray I 1 full length pass not short burst you go then forwards then backwards overlapping every pass by 25% and most importantly take your time you do 6-8 coats clear, 3 coats primer filler as many as needed sanding after every 2-3 wait 3 day before cut and polishing it, 2pack is a different method anyone one can pm me if they need help
atm I'm using rattle can as I sold my large compressor as I'm buying 1 of those silent compressor, I've just got a little 1 which can't keep with my spray guns I do use it for candies`

My Strats finished came out nice this 1 is a keeper ive put Seymour Duncan pick ups I took out of a old Kramer Strat, I've upgraded the bridge to a lot heavier 1, put on a 22 fret maple neck not stringed yet as I've run out of strings, I completely striped the black Les Paul sanded it down with 1000g till the surfaces were completely flat and body swell was gone then sanded it with 2000g cut and polished with good compound and it look as if it was new very happy with it, the white Les Paul I repair the chip in the neck and sanded the back only with 2000g and cut and polished it the large scratch was gone it looks new,
The Strat I did in candy apple green I ended putting another 2 coat 5 in all 8 coats of clear lacquer I'm pretty happy with them all so far my collection to 7 and I've got my eye on an SG which I might get here some pics so thats it for a couple of weeks till I find somemore

Did my usual troll of cashiers I picked up a SG for $100 it had a big chip in it and the scarf joint needed reglueing which I did with epoxy I've sanded it all back to the grain sealer im going to give it a couple coats of sealer, haven't got any idea what colour yet got to think about it, I finished painting the super Strat I'm leaving it for couple of days to harden it ended up candy sky blue I did him with spray gun as I wanted more clear on it, the SG will be by spray gun, i just got to find 1 more guitar for myself which is a ESP LTD FM650 which is my all time favourite guitar they have active EMG's in them they sound amazing and are beautiful thing to play and the rest I do will be give aways at xmas here some pic's

Hey chaps been at it again picked up a mint Squire Strat just needs a cut and polish and I'm going to upgrade it parts as I always do, rare to pick up any guitar from cashies that i haft to correct it in some way, been working on the SG had a few problems regluing the scarf joint and I notice the finger plate was unglued, so shot up to bunnings to get a stronger glue settled on weld bond which did the trick and reglued all the finger plate, got a pot of timber mate to ill a few spots,
guys who have read my thread from the beginning know I don't like timbermate, as it swells when using lacquer clear it sucks up the thinners swells and messes up a lot of work getting them all flat unfortunately had no choice I gave the whole body 3 coats of binder prior to shooting the colour tint which should isolate it, the pictures I'm about 1/2 way through doing the colour, I've mix it up its a dark red festering in to a reddish brown the pictures don't do it justice, should have him in clear by Monday, I got 4 guitars on the go atm, all the ones I got for myself are finished and play everyone of them every night
Has anyone know anything about Artist guitars Strat Wrangler pick up set any good or crap
Ok heres some pictures
The red arrows are how much the finger board needed gluing

Looking good. I like the idea of the fade to natural section on the SG neck.
hi chaps Been busy I finished painting the SG she will take a few days before I can polish as I've put 15 coats of clear 10 coats thined down to 1-1 sanded that down with 1000grit then another 5 at 2-1 its come up nice picture doesn't do it justice, it a tint over binder you can see the grain through the paint, I'm going to leave it 3-4 day to harden thats the down side of lacquer I've done the SG with spray gun
The other is the squire I've striped it down and sanded the body with 800 grit then 1000grit and lastly 2000grit it had done bad scratches in it which its a keeper so put a bit of work into it, all the scratches are gone a cut it back with a 2k cutting compound don't know what clear they use but it pretty tough to cut back, I changed out SSH pick ups for a SSS changed all the electrics to better pots and cap used a black pick guard as I feel it suits it better, I've also put on a roller Bridge, upgraded machine heads (tunners) set it all up did any high frets and im going to change out the nut for a graph tech the thing plays great and sounds great was exactly what I was looking for heres some pics
Thats them all done till I find some more and I'm going to buy couple of tele kits and a es335 but you can buy a new artist hollow body cheaper than a kit I had 1 before I got sick so think ill grab 1 of those

Just had a quick look at your FB, you've got some nice toys in the shed which is far more organised than mine.
Lol Dave Yep I'm 1 of those guys who's always doing something theirs a truck load of pic's of guitars I've done over the years most of the Strats i gave away to single parents with kids over 10 I'm going to do some of those 3/4 size Strats for young kids who want to learn and high school they teach you how to play, I've know a few single mums and dad who do it pretty tough
I got the SG cut and polished today still got to pop on the machine heads and string it looks OK colour suits an SG got a spot ill got to repair slipped with the drill screwing in the pick guard, thats them all done till I check out what cashiers have, they don't have a lot worth doing as I've purchased them all lol forgot I scraped the finger board to take all the crap build up

That is how an SG should look. Bit of Angus Young. Bit of Ferrari ;-)
exactly they got to be that reddy brown like back in the 60's I've been after 1 for a while I'm eyeing off another 1 but its new, also looking at buying a small valve head but don't know what to buy its either a Marshall dsl20hr, Blackstar ht20 studio, a bugera 20watt, or the 5watt blackstar or the 5 watt bugera ive got a 412 cab would like to run my line6 amplif TT
got some of my upgrades for the Strat I got a Wilkinson 52mm delux bridge I got a set of Artist wrangler pick up but had broken wire on the middle pickup which they are sending a new 1, still waiting on the Locking tuners and new nuts, the bridge is nice and weighty should be better setting up the term and stay in tune as was terrible I got 6 packs of EB slinky 9-46 strings so will replace all the strings on all my guitars, I've got 3 sets of locking tuner for my Les Pauls looking forward to finishing the Strat as I miss a good Strat the term arm is a push in with grub screw feels good and not flopping around I will do the same to all my Strats heres a few picture ill order a couple of Tele kits next week and looking for a super start with Floyd rose

Yeah looks sweet.. and sweet guitars deserve sweet hardware to go with it!
I do like Wilkinson gear.. I wouldn’t mind opening a line of hardware that’s more than just Babicz… don’t get me wrong, they are spectacular gear, but they cost it. Wilkinson is a good middle ground I feel, better than stock, but not as dear as FCH.
I found Wilkinson Tele bridges in the misc pile, if you want one Phrozin. They’re on the store.
A man after my own heart! I think the idea of adding hardware that is high quality but won't break the bank is a great idea. Wilkinson is the go-to for hardware that is high quality but not deadly expensive.
FWIW Sung-Il in Korea makes bridges for Wilkinson, TonPros and Babicz, but also makes bridges under their own name that are well above average in quality, and well below average in price for quality hardware. I have their bridges on three of my basses.
I have also had really good luck with tuners from Tone Ninja and Hipshot that are made in Korea, that are great without being nearly as expensive as their US counterparts. Again... FWIW.
I totally agree with you Tim Babicz are pretty expensive, yep ill check it out I'm going to grab a Les Paul Kit the set neck and quilted maple gen I'm just deciding if ill buy set net salted maple top as well, ill drop you an email Monday and ill sort out a PayPal invoice
ok I picked up a black cribson but she was pretty banged up on the back which Ive repaired, I come across a new product from my paint gear guy its a rattle can 2k clear but its different, what's better than others it doesn't need you to pop the hardener which can be hit or miss and you got 24 hours before its usless, its made by concept paint and if you have purchased a 2k rattle can you know your looking at anything from $45-$75 a can but this new 1 from Spectra Automotive paints in Condell Park in NSW have these for $29.95 a tin, thats a bargain for a 2k clear, I'm polishing it tonight or tomorrow ill post pics to see the shine that it has and how tough it is. It opens up a new way for guys building their own as I like acrylic clear but it scratches easy and takes 4 to 6 weeks before full cure, this new 1 sprays very low pressure and recioat aft 5min but Ill leave it min 15 minutes you can put it over paint, stain, and dyes it drys very flat without orange peal which is a must for 2k I'm quite impressed with it its touch dry in 15 and can be handled in 30 min I like to leave 2k 48 hours before polishing.
most of us builders know how hard it can be to finish your own especially me and this will make your end product better and easier theirs nothing like building your own guitars
https://i.imgur.com/gDdcMVS.jpg
I purchased a quilted maple LS Paul with set neck, and spalted maple set net from Tim, got some big plans for them both got to dig out my dye and stain box see what I've got, ill more than likely dye them and a stained back and use a 2 pack clear as these 2 are going in my Les Paul collection, just need an ES335 to find so I can do my custom mods too, Les Pauls ill put a lot of effort in to them so their perfect ill put in locking tuners graf tech nuts and upgrade the pick ups and Bridge, I got another Strat on Friday theres nothing to do to the body but changing neck to maple fret board locking tuners another Wilkinson bridge and puting a bone nut which I'm still waiting for the thing was like new its an SX vintage which are not to bad if you spend some time on set up came with stand gig bag and strap got it for 4 $180
Sounds like one to watch. I have not started mine yet. Never had an LP before and still have a few things ahead of it in the cue. I did upgrade the hardware. Tone Ninja tuners, Pearly Gates clone pickups. Upgraded the pots and switch. All gold hardware. Hoping it will resemble the 61B50N I have always regretted not buying in a music store in Seattle in my youth...
Was planning on using a bone nut. Curious if you like the Tusq nut better? I used one on a build for my daughter because it had a trem, and I figured it was a bit slipperier. The only other time I've used one was for my an acoustic because, although it was an old, cheap Fender, it had a Martin style nut with a slanted bottom and the only one I could find that fit was Tusq.
the Tusq nut is better but bone is still upgrade from the plastic nut, I had an epi 2000 made in Korea with some 57 Gibson and an Angus young in the bridge I spent like $1000 AU on it but could never get the intonation right I put it in to a guitar doctor here in Adelaide, he had it for weeks sorting it out he put a Tusq net in it it changed the guitar feel and sound it was the best sounding Les Paul I ever played I had that guitar for 22 years I loved the thing so when ever I got to do a full set up I always put 1 in.
I was a bit like you agood Strat and tele was my go to I rarely picked up a Les P but always wanted a Gibson Angus young, unfortunately when I got sick I sold everything I had about 60 guitars Fender, ESP, LTD, Ibanez all high end when I got the news I won the battle after 2 1/2 years I started on getting them back the first 1 I purchased was a Les Paul custom once the fingers loosed up I fell in love with it so much so any les Paul that came up forsale I purchased it I now have 5 of them and 2 SGs, when I finished the squire Strat build and the tele I actually found I was making heaps of problem playing the the frets were further apart and I'd miss the note
now I play mainly the Les Pauls and 1 the SG custom, I purchased a Marshall DSL20HR last week which I'm hopeing it arrives this week so once I get that nothing beats a Les Paul and a Marshall, I want to upgrade all the Les Pauls with locking Tuners, nuts and pickups in 2 of them, I'm looking forward to doing the 2 PB kits I've ordered paint and product I will post progress on them, I got big plans for them both as these are keepers so their going to get the good gear as well, Absolutely buy yourself a Les Paul their heavy but well worth the investment they sound great on a tube amp and some great parts around for them if you buy a Gibson be careful as some are real dogs but you can buy the new Epiphones they are now built the exact same as a Gibson solid maple top Gibson pickups and 1/2 the price of the Gibson they just released a Les Paul custom guy are raving about online
Hey chaps I got my 2 Les Paul kits today a Quilted maple and spalted maple the both are really nice nothing I need to do Tim sent them 1st thing Monday so only 4 day postage which is great, I haven't worked out a plan yet but ill be putting in a good efforts, hopefully I inspire some of you guys to do a few you can never have too many guitars lol really looking forward to doing them but won't start them till next week as currently getting new flooring layed going to take 3 days, ill most likely to do a dye/stain finish with a 2k clear over that still waiting for paint to be delivered, Tims got the best kits so support him by buying a kit there's nothing like building your own custom build
I finished the cribson i had to repair the back and neck I resprayed black where needed and used the rattle can 2k clear over the whole thing, has a lovery shine off the gun and polished very nice, a couple of things to note the new 2k took 4 days before I could polish it was still softafter 2 days which was a surprise to me, it also needed a 100% 2k cutting compound added a sponge buffing pad as lambs wool left a lot of swirl marks im goin to leave it another week before I put it together just incase I slip with the screw driver here son pictures after polishing the neck pic is unpolished

seems ive run into problems with the Spalted body its got cracked purfling, not sure what ill do to fix it yet but looks like I will haft to replace it but straight cream is hard to find, it pretty much put a stain finish out of the question i've come across before and its a prick to repair you can't actually see it until you put the stain on had big plans for it the quilted LP is ok the last one I got was the e335 kit thats why its in the spare room as its not easy to fix if anyone got any idea I welcome it

Binding Fix:
I recall Simon B having to paint the binding a cream colour on one of his builds due to cracks. I think he hand painted the binding.
I think I would round over the sharp edge and spray solid on the sides and burst on the front to cover the binding.
hey chaps been having new flooring put in the whole of my house today was 1st day I managed to get some work done. I got both bodys dyed and have done the burst on them the quilted 1 I used Rit daffodil yellow dye and Rit dye racing Red on the back and used a Baltic stain to do the burst I like a softer burst, I've put 3 coats of sealer on the back and neck over the dye which does darken it a bit, the salted maple 1 I've use Rit dye daffodil yellow on front and a very thin down mahogany stain on the back and a black burst.
I've only put 1 coat of sealer on the salted 1, 1 so far but will put at least 1 more on it the dyes are from their new line which work a lot better the salted 1 I have scraped out the old binding prick of a job to do and replacing it with the same cream binding which arrived today so ill be doing that before I set the necks.
I've had the 2k clear came as well so their both getting a 2k clear, its a new clear I've not used before but apparently its has a mirror finish so thought I'd buy a litre and try it so far they are going to plan the quilted 1 the Binding has some cracks but think I can touch the up I just got to color match it easy enough here some pic's of progress

had a great week end got heaps done and a few repairs on a couple of Strat bodies and got them all in 2pack clear I used a different brand and I loved it very easy to spray and laid down very flat, has a ripper shine
here a strat I repaired and I put another 2 cost of candy apple green and put 9 coats of clear on it sprayed in sets of 3 to give it a bit to really flash off I'm quite happy with it and will look very nice when its polished, I'm thinking about doing my tele with the 2 pack which will be a lot tougher than lacquer, looks green under lights its not black

ok here are the 2 Les Pauls the painting is finish and ready to cut and polish I put 12 coats of 2 pack clear I don't know if it a MS or a HS as has no info on the tin, I'm thinking is an epoxy as its so easy to spray and even at 2.1 hardener it takes longer to flash and takes a day before you can do anything with it, a normal 2k its touch dry in a hour and harder overnight. if you have never used a 2k before and a little worried about running it would be good for you ill pop a link to it, as for use I got these 4 guitars done with just a whisker over 500ml which is very economical which is 6-7 Les Pauls from a litre of it highly recommended it for everyone

should have them finished in a couple of days as have an appointment at hospital on Wednesday, I'm quite chuft with them the new binding went great as it can mess up a good body very easily, the squire will be a give away which is 3 Strats that ill give away at Xmas I picked up a new SX Strat which is a keeper they are 1 of my favorite Strats their arguably the best Strat you can buy under $250aud, ill be looking for some more to do maybe a tele or a super Strat kit, I quite like the gem kit but don't like the price especially the Floyd rose on them aren't very good as have done a couple before
Some real beauties here!
I also have to agree with you about the SX's. My FrankenJazz Bass started as one of theirs. Really nice quality for the money. If what I understand about them is true, they were the house brand of FrankenFender for a shop in New Jersey. To keep them budget friendly they moved production to Asia. I don't know if that's true, but what I do know is that they are now owned by Team International, which has farmed out manufacturing to mainland China. An Australian company has partnered with them for distribution. There *used* to be a US company that had done the same and they were pretty popular, particularly as a base for modding and hot rodding, but the US company is phasing out SX's. More's the pity. They were great while they lasted.
I've finished 1 but the strat needs a few more coats of clear as does the other les paul not 100% happy with the binding

Hope my LP comes out half as well!
it will, this one was the 1 with Crack binding was the bugger to do the other 1 is coming out way better had to redo the burst and reclear it I took your advice and painted the binding will clear it today them couple days to harden fully before I polish it. had a bit of a play on my Strat not real happy how it sounds not sure I like the wrangler pick ups, its the first chance to play it. I changed pick ups in my black Les Paul and it sounds amazing ill goof around with me Strat in a day or so see if I can figure out if I've done something wrong with the wirering
Credit where it's due. I think that advice comes from Simon Barden and TD. I haven't painted binding...but it may be in the future, since the LP has simple binding, and my plan is to at least attempt a stain.
I have two other builds that have binding, but I cheated on those... On one I botched the stain, and so did a solid color. On the other I did a solid color body and just left the wood unstained on the back and sides.
Once you have seepage of stain into the binding, painting may be the best option. Easier than replacing, for sure. I haven't done it, but I have heard that some people paint the binding with either clear or platina shellac before staining to seal any cracks. I have never done that either...and I am not sure it's any better than painting the binding...particularly for someone with your painting skills!
