hey guys just a quick update I've been goofing with this strat today I've given him 4 coats of sanding sealer and lightly sanded between coats with 240grit so we get a good barrier between the lacquer and grain, left it for a day to dry and I've popped 5 coats of Candy dark cherry over that so you can still see the grain of the body instead of filler, primer, base, then candy, and clear this isn't my idea I've seen it done on ESP LTDs, and High-end Ibanez guitars ESP call it see-through Red but can be done with any color candy tint. the secret is the sanding sealer I've done 4 coats as it's an Ash body other woods wouldn't need so many coats but 4 on Ash and mahogany, maple cap 1 coat, basswood 2 coats, my camera sucks on my phone so don't see the full detail of the wood I'm going to put some clear lacquer leave it for a few days sand till i get a good flat surface then I will put a 2k HS clear over it, this would look amazing over a quilt or flame veneer

More great work phrozin!
What sanding sealer are you using?
Thanks
Nice. Goofing around - seems like your back in the game!
hey guys more goofing around the blue 1 is Candy Sky Blue and the red one is Candy Cherry Red not confused with Dark Cherry Red which is between Candy Apple red and dark Cherry red, both over a silver base 3 double header coats, and ill give them a couple of days before I use a new 2k clear, I'm giving a try the stuff is that good nothing can get through it and tough as a rock even a rag with thinners doesn't touch it I'm quite surprised with it, weather here is crazy atm very damp haft to hang them in the bathroom with heater warming them, I quite like the sky blue ordered it thinking ill give it ago I buy all my candy concentrates from perfect pearl in the UK as they are really good product kills the local stuff

Hi guys I've started back doing some guitars again have been out of action for a good 18 months was due to a medical issue which knocked me around for a while, I got rid of my collection of guitars wasn't sure I'd be around, I've purchased a couple of amps a Marshall mini stack and a fender mustang 3 v2, i had a couple of reworks in my spare room I've started doing an ES that the purling was all cracked so I'm currently replacing that, I've removed the neck to get the body all sanded, and ill put on a sealer and not sure what finish ill do on it until I check my paint cupboard to see what I've got with dyes and candies and colour, I've upgraded my kit new Guns and compressor,
I also had to repair my car as a semi took the front off while it was parked so I did that and resprayed which took me 6 months to do not easy doing it from a wheelchair, heres a couple of pic's its done in 2k, I have a les Paul needs doing as well, I'm more a fender guy so ill be ordering a strat and a Tele kits, and got a lot of catching up whos still here and the new guys for those that don't know I had a motorcycle accident in 2014 where I demolished a disc in my back which dented my spinal cord so I'm in a wheelchair. I'm a retied auto refinisher (Auto spray painter)

Welcome back, good to see you're still on the sunny side of the grass.
Funny thing, only yesterday I was trying to remember who the guy in the chair was who did the nice spray jobs.
Question answered.
Yes, welcome back phrozin. Nice to have you back working on guitars.
Good to see you back and still with us. I knew you were in a chair but didn’t know the reason, motorcycle strikes again. Looking forward to seeing your work again.
ok got a bit done I put new binding on the body did a pearl I've filled the grain used a 2k primer with a bit of plastisizer mixed in the keep it flexible gone over it with a plastic filler (black stuff) I use that as have had some problems using 2k which is a epoxy as wood grows and shrink with the weather, I found that was the best results for it not cracking over time. Removing the neck was the way to go but I will glue in back in before I shoot anything at it, I'm a bit undecided if ill do it candy dark cherry or candy Sky Blue leaning towards the blue, I've put new binding on the les Paul but didn't have enough left to do the neck so have ordered more so not a lot to add their except I'm going to do a candy tangerine but thats a way off, their not to much in the way of kits available at PB i want to do, had a bit of an iche to do a black beauty, years ago I had an Gibson Custom Ace Frehley Budokan with 3 PAF-style DiMarzio Super Distortion pups my mate pester me for ages to sell him it they will set you back $25k the thing sounded great

Holly macaroni! What a finish!
Got my 1st guitar painted I picked it up from cashiers on Saturday body was poorly painted and I dropped it and took a hunk out of it so figured bugger ill repaint it, I've done a bit on the ES I'm going to do that in candy dark cherry, I had more candys than I thought which was great as I buy my candys and pearls from the UK got every colour except candy apple Red the tele I've use a silver base and 4 coats of candy Sky Blue I've put 6 coats of clear its 44 deg here in Adelaide today, the paint was dry before it hit the body ill sand it with some 1000grit and put another 5 coats, the ES I darkened the cherry to an almost deep crimson its also coming along ill get some work done on it this week, I lashed out a purchased a white with gold HW Les Paul custom, but looking for a decent Strat or an Ibanez S to do, I've not done much on the les Paul as the custom ill have the 3rd pup put in as it will be my best 1 I own until PB gets some les Pauls and SG kits in stock the custom is new
Hers a couple of pic of the Tele I spent some time getting it nice and flat

Very nice!
That is going to be a one of those stelthy stunners. It looks a bit like the old lake placid blues...and then you get close and it's something even better ;-)
it does I put a couple extra coats which made it a bit bluer i used a softer silver with less flake it looks like this with a more metallic silver, you can put it over a gold base which is more reflective
https://i.imgur.com/fMmJpjb.jpg
it was much cooler here today so got some coats of which laid flatter colour is candy dark cherry over the same base as the blue one, this is 4 coats I haven't cleared yet but got some HS 2k clear I might put over both as shine is way better and flows better out of the gun not sure if I go darker, I've put a pearl white binding should contrast well, took a fair bit of work on the body had a lot of dents and scratches I had to, the hardest part was scrapping out the old binding

Those are just amazing! Not something you see everyday, that's for sure!
After a busy day I got the ES painted I put 3 more coats of cherry red, then hit it with 6 coats of clear which ill sand it with 1000grit an more than likely put 3 coast of 2k clear so this is the final colour the pictures don't do justice once 2k clear ill leave it for a few days to harden and cut and polished will look pretty good when done and the pearl binding
I've got a new set of Grover vintage machine heads I purchased 2 years ago for my Artist AP97 Honey Burst les Paul but got sick and never used, I'm going to put some Gibson 57 pick ups in it
@fender3x cheers

I love that binding! Was it already on the guitar or did you install it yourself?
No it originally had a cream binding but when I 1st stained it the binding was all cracked so I put it away till I had the time to put new binding on it, think I got it off ebay, it was a prick of a job replacing it took couple of hours to scrape the old 1s off normally I've have 3 to 5 on the go I've done about 100 guitars
I repainted the Tele wasn't happy with it I stripped it back to bare wood I spent a lot of time getting it really flat, I used a different base on this one 6 coat of candy and 4 coats of 2k clear ill give it a couple of day before I polish it and put it back together, I've started work on the led Paul ill post some pic soon, I use the flash on the camera as its quite dark

Wow, Phrozin, that is so perfect. Do you plan to do any polishing with it? It doesn't look like it needs you to do anything at all more.
ill give it a few days and ill sand flat with 1000grit then 2000grit and then polish it, the great thing about 2k clear is off the gun finish would have already polished it but I used a plasticiser in 2 pack to keep it flexible as wood expands and contracts with the weather and would eventually, crack over time I did a les Paul and just left it in my work shop for about a year and it cracked big time its actually the 1 I'm doing atm
got the tele done I re did it in candy apple green over silver base put 6 coats to get dark enough look really dark and green under lights came up pretty good, done it all with lacquer apart from the candy I did base and clear with rattle can
ES is bit off yet having some issues with it, I've got a led Paul custom in white and gold hardware im going to put 3 pick ups into it and a strat I'm going to start next week heres couple of pic's of the tele which is finished

You're in factory mode! The Tele looks spectacular. Sort of a combination of British Racing Green and California Hot Rod ;-)
+1 for looking wonderful. Great work.
yep thats what I was going for, I'm pretty pleased with it with less coats its more a bright green thought its a bit different,
I've picked up a super strat from cashies its a dark blue with a ding in the body thought it would be a good candidate to refurbish it has a bad neck which I didn't find out till I plugged it in and sounded terrible I spent 2 day to get it sounding nice, I've got an Ibanez neck that fits I just had to pull back the bridge by 5mm to get it scale length, im going to do it candy tangerine and doing a strat which is black as I'm not a fan of black or dark blue guitars the strat needs a lot of work on the body will take me a month or 2 to finish it, I've got heaps of necks and spare parts I've accumulated over the years I'm well over a 100 guitars I've done now my Facebook has heaps of them on it
I've been doing them now for 9 years I don't sell them, once I get the ones I want to keep (im a fender guy) I give them away at Xmas to single parents on benifits its my hobby and what kid doesnt like to have a guitar, this last 12 months guitar prices have risen quit a lot, even a squire Affinity are over $400, being in a wheelchair gives me something to do and who knows may be a few start a band, when i got sick i got rid of all my guitars and amps so ive been on a buying spree to get back a few once I got better
thank you Trevor
If there is ever a Nobel Prize for guitar building I am nominating you. It's hard to imagine doing something better than sharing one of your breathtaking works of art, and music, with someone who could not otherwise afford it. You rock, sir!
On a side note, I had to look up "cashies." One more piece of Australian slang that I have learned here. Refreshing! When I hear slang that I don't recognize here in Miami it's usually in Spanish or in teenager ;-)
hey mate cheers I don't do it for recognition I do 20-30 guitars a year normally, I can't keep all of them and if it give a young fella and girl to feel what we feel when we play its a skill people are passionate about, I am, I'm not a spectator most people who can't walk let it get to them and just sit watching TV all day give up on lifee, I can't do that I've got to be doing something i love doing them and i don't need the money so I figured the best thing I can do is help kids who need a hand especially this last couple of year
sorry cashies is cash converters I troll them every week I picked up a Strat yesterday for just $65 it needs a refubish ive sanded it all down and I've got all sorts of parts its not been looked after body and neck are good few dents but needs new bridge, pups, and machine heads which I have

I stand by my assessment, sir! That it's good for you too is gravy. It's good for the world.
Don't apologize for using Australian slang! I enjoy looking it up. Broadens my world ;-)
hey folks got a bit done this weekend I've sprayed the super Strat and the Other Strat I'm not 100% on these 2 colour wise the super Strat is candy tangerine over a silver base and the Strat I've done in cobolt blue niether has been cleared yet I'm not sure these are the final colours so got to see if they grow on me as these 2 are keepers for my guitar collection
heres the super Strat done in Candy tangerine 6 coats done by spray gun not cleared yet as I've run out of both acrylic and 2k and I buy them from Melbourne so its a weeks wait for delivery

https://i.imgur.com/eUhf0eX.png
heres the Strat I'm not 100% sure how many coats but its more than 6 of cobolt blue over a blue metallic its my least favorite of the 2

https://i.imgur.com/P2EciSm.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/zvybPc2.jpg
They are both nice. The tangerine may is a bit more exotic, but I like the traditional Strat shape, and I have always liked bathtub routes because of the endless possibilities for pickup configurations ;-)
Strats done it way better than it was got to leave it for a week so clear hardens as used rattle can which if you don't know they have a retarder so it doesn't dry before it hits what your painting, came out OK colour is cobolt blue 6 coats and 6 coats of clear, the thing was the worse guitar I've done body had heaps of dents and the front where your elbow was rippled ever piece of hardware was buggered and I've replaced everything on it, originally it was black with black pick guard was a mess I can't get my head around how people don't look after but only cost me $65 from cashies
I'm now moving on to the super Strat then the es335
