Never heard of Diluted and high-proof Liquor
Unfortunately Absinthe has other (herbal) things in it that will send you mad if you don't treat it right or if you over-indulge. It was the LSD of the late 19th Century.
Actually, the supposed psychoactive ingredient in Absinthe, Wormwood, wasn't what supposedly caused madness in those who drank it, in the late 19th Century, there were some dubious brewers who added poisonous substances during the brewing process to get the green colour typical of Absinthe, which is actually caused by Chlorophyll, real traditionally brewed Absinthe actually contains so little Wormwood that you'd probably die of alcohol poisoning before you even experienced any effects from Wormwood, after having being banned from being brewed and sold for so many years, Absinthe has since been legalized and is enjoying a Renaissance.
