Dedmans LP-1MQ
I bought this as a factory second, so please don't despair if I paint it a sold colour
It has a crack in the neck pocket and a lot of tiny chips around the edges of the veneer where they meet the binding and it's generally a Friday afternoon or first thing Monday morning kit.
The plans......a bit of a retro-ish parter for my Gretsch , so black and chrome. I ordered a pair of Tone Rider Rebel 90 pick ups for it as I don't have a P90 equipped guitar and they will be in keeping with the reto thing. I'll order a set of Kluson tuners and a Schaller bridge and tail piece for it. I'll probably use a white pick guard , black rear covers.
I'll take pics tomorrow of how I tackle the crack.
One question for electronics guys... what size pots and Cap should I run with P90's?
-
look forward to seeing the kit Dedman, so it's quilted maple, shame to cover it with solid paint.
I've only built one P90 kit so not sure what size pots and cap to use, I guess 250k and 500k pots will have pro's and cons
-
Good question on the pots???
Mostly 250k for single coils and 500k for humbuckers and also different capacitor values too.
Gibson website for current LP Jnr link is here http://www.gibson.com/Products/Elect...-Jr/Specs.aspx
and states...
Electronics
Potentiometers 1 Volume Control, 1 Tone Control
Type 300k Linear Volume, 500k Non-linear Tone
Coil Wiring Machine Wound
Output Jack 1/4" Mono
Hope this helps a bit.

Nice choice in kit Dedman. I too chose a stuffed veneer for some guilt free painting.
High five for the Rebel 90's, I got them for my semi-hollow and can't wait to hear them.

So here's I have treated the crack in the neck. I held it up to the sky and found the end of the crack and drilled a 5mm hole. This should prevent the crack ever going further.

Then I needed a way to open the crack a tiny beit to get glue in, and also a way of clamping it together. I McGyvered up this device. With the nuts on one side, screwing forced the 2 sided apart, with them as in the pic it pulls them together. Seems to be working, glue squeezed out and is drying. I'll dowel the hole later even though it will be under the neck plate.

nice method Dedman I think that should work fine, love the McGyver method well done.
So is there anything wrong with the quilted maple top ? If not then it should be stained !
-
glue, chips on the edges, and I have to dowel and re-drill the bridge and tail piece holes because the ones I'm using have smaller posts. I may stain it black on the front, but it is intended to be a mate for Miss Gretchen (I couldn't afford a Jet )

ah ok no worries Dedman, so what colour scheme/hardware will it have to match ?

sounds good Dedman, we know how much of a fan of black you are !!
Does the kit have quilted maple veneer on the headstock ?
