Hi Loose12, can you please post some photos how badly the body has bowed ? Do you mean parts of the timber grain has lifted ?
Doesn't sound good, all you can do at this stage is hang it somewhere safe to dry.
At best you will probably have to sand it back to bare wood, depends how bad the water damage is
Dependiing on how badly and where it has actually bowed it may be possible to clamp or compress it straighter while it dries. But, as Wokka says, we need some pictures before we can offer any real advice.
post some pics as the others have said, we might be able to save it
Hi wokkaboy,
It has lifted the grain in parts near the pick up and knob holes.
And a long lift on the back.
Can't really see it in photos, but you can feel it.
Ahhhh, this sounds like a case of my fave... Sanding.....
You should be able to sand out the lifted areas and refinish
Loose, if the lifted parts can't be seen in photos can't be too bad then.
I'd do as Weirdy suggested get a flat piece of wood and clamp the surface, use a rag for the other side to protect the surface.
You got nothing to lose trying this.
Otherwise its a sand back to bare wood !
If the timber is still damp, grab an old tea towel and sneak the household iron out (just don't get caught, wives and mothers have a thing about us guys using the iron for non clothing type jobs)
Set it on a cool setting and lay the tea towel over the areas affected and gently force dry it, the grain should shrink back to somewhere close to its correct place.
You will still have to sand it all back though........
Haha thanks for your help guys.
I'll try the clamping first, keep you posted
