Hi all
Just about to pull the trigger on the JZ-6 Baritone as a first build.
Am looking at the Dingotone or Tru oil as a finish and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations
Will the ash body darken at all with just Tru oil?
Cheers

Hi Ron,
my TLA-1 has an ash body and it did darken with tru-oil. It looked good - but I do not have a picture. It is also meant to darken a bit with age. I wanted mine to be real dark - so stained with FW jarrah!
Give it a test with the tru-oil in the neck route to see if you are happy with it. I personally love using tru-oil! It is nice and easy to use.
I have not used the Dingotone without a stain.
Thanks guys
I’d like mine to be darker, have zero experience with this sort of thing, so don’t know about tints and stuff
Hi Ron,
stains are quite easy if you want one colour (a lot more difficult for bursts). Literally wipe on with a rag. Make sure you use gloves! I've found the Feast Watson alcohol stains are easy to use and available from local hardware stores. You can get small sample bottles for a good price. It is worth practicing on a small scrap of wood.
What colour would you like to do? Any darker stain should go well on ash.
Thanks heaps mate, so would I just get one of the FW stains, apply it and if I’m happy with the colour, put Tru oil over the top?
Yep.
Sand it up to 240 grit sandpaper, apply the stain, leave for a day or so. I would brush on the first 2 coats of tru-oil (with throw away brushes), then add lots of thin coats of tru-oil with a 10x 10 cm cotton cloth around a half tissue ball. Every 5 coats or so give a very light rub down with 600 g wet and dry to remove fluff etc. Easy.
Really appreciate the advice, sounds like a great plan
Cheers
