    Marcel's folley #6 a PRS-1H

After the joy of the completion of my Denim Tele I had intended to carry it on and build a 12 string Tele, however for reasons beyond anyone's control that was not to be, so I've invested in a PRS-1H to extend the ever diversifying herd of Axe's under my protection...

On first inspection all seems to be in order with only the neck fit into the body being slightly looser than I'd prefer.. The Flame Maple veneer and the binding look great (I spilt a little Naptha on it to bring out the flame on the close up photo), and the grain matching of the Mahogany blocks in the body is awesome. Two minor grain blemishes in the Mahogany in the neck are more a simple annoyance than a problem (my Gibson LP has a worse grain blemish on the body).

Got a set of Gold Grovers to go with this build which is also my first Gold hardware guitar. I've been a chrome or Black hardware guy on every axe until now, so no PUP changes just yet. We'll see how the supplied PUP's stack up before making changes there.

Now to decide the colour and finish.... I have 5 granddaughters so I'm leaning towards a Pink/Red combination this time round ... Pink flame with a redish edge and Gold hardware is a PRS style look isn't it?

kit looks good Marcel. If the grandaughters like pink then go for it. Does this have a wrap around TOM bridge ?

Haven't looked that closely Wokka, but I'm pretty sure it's a wrap around.

must be Marcel as there are only 2 bridge post holes and no trapeze bridge. Thought you would have at least checked the post holes align

Shades of pink, red or magenta should look good with gold hardware.

Lucky score with the flame maple top.

Spent an hour or so on sanding. A quick once over all the Mahogany with 120 and then lots of cleaning and checking with 320.

This is a Mahogany base with cut outs to give the hollow body voids, then a shaped Mahogany cap with the typical 0.6mm Maple veneer. The choice of woods for the base is exceptional with the grain disguising very well the joins between the blocks used to make the base. Can't comment on the cap as most of it is hidden between the base and the Maple, however there is considerable glue ooze from between the base and the cap that needs to be addressed. Thankfully there is very little glue spill from between the Maple and the cap.

One thing that is very surprising is how thick the body is at the back of the neck. It seems more like 'bolt on' 3/4" thickness rather than the more typically found 1/4" set neck size. Also as a FYI for those considering this kit there is plenty of meaty solid Mahogany down the middle of the body so should someone was to fit a Bigsby or whatever variation of bridge there is an abundance of solid wood along the string centre line to work with....

I'm suspecting this build will have more of a LP tone than an ES style tone....

More sanding.... damped it down to check for glue, still a few spots ... I'm liking the colour of the Mahogany so much that when I'm done sanding and have coloured the Maple I might just clear coat it...

Damn flies, they are so annoying...

That looks a really nice body Marcel. What colour do you have in mind for the maple top?
