When Dingobass was on the board he would mention this often. The instructions on paint and other finishes give the touch dry time not the time to full cure. If you can still smell the finish it is still curing which often takes weeks. It is always advisable to wait a week before moving to the polishing stage. All car finishes are designed to go on metal, not porous wood. I’m sure this has something to do with the longer curing times.

Cheers fretworn . I came to the same conclusion re wood holding thinners and extending cure times. 30+ years of panel and paint this is the first time I've used acrylic on wood.
