This one will progress slowly alongside my 2nd scratch build.

It'll be a strat style. Hoping to try and design a headstock style for it but worst case I'll just copy one of the Fender designs.

Haha I'll just be slowly chipping away on both.

I haven't weighed it yet but it's very light. I was going to do a swimming pool route so that I have options in the future for different pickup combinations if I get bored with SSS but now I may do a more convention route because I'm actually worried about potential neck dive. I'll weigh it over the weekend and see what I'm starting with.

I also haven't decided whether to do hardtail or trem.

My Maton acoustic has a Queensland maple neck (as well as back and sides). It's been left fairly natural with no grain filling, which does make it feel slightly 'rough' under the hand. If I could change anything on the guitar, I'd either have grain filled or lacquer filled the pores on the neck so that it felt smoother.

Queensland maple isn't a true maple, but is a branch of the citrus family. As a result, it's more akin to mahogany than maple in general texture and feel.

Yep, my plan is to finish the whole guitar with clear lacquer so that it's smooth but you can see the nice timber.

Can confirm the amount of texture. I'm currently clearing the neck on my scratch which is QLD Maple, there are some big ol' pores to fill up.

It's funny how timber names get Aussie-fied here...

Two that come to mind are Tassie Oak, which is not an oak species at all but one of several variants of eucalypt, and Qld Maple, as Simon pointed out, is a species of citrus.

What other timber types are misnomers here?

Queensland Walnut, Northern Silky Oak and Southern Silky Oak spring to mind straight away.

'White Mahogany' which is stringy bark. I guess the (mis)naming has to do with trying to give people an idea what it is similar to compared to 'traditional' woods.
