    Total scratch build

Been kicking around the idea of building a LP scratch build. Got me thinking about using what timbers I have to hand, or more to the point, what is growing on my parents property. While there the other day I singled out a nice silver quondong which I hopefully can get dropped and milled by a local sawmill. Fingers crossed this comes off, I'll have timbers for a lifetime of builds.

    Maybe 😁
This will be a slow build though, as long as you aren't in a hurry.

I think any build where you look at a tree and think "That'd make a nice guitar!" Is going to be a slow build ;-)

Very cool! Will the wood need to sit and dry for a time before it can be used?

Yes, i am unsure of exactly how long, but probably at least a year if it doesn't get kiln dried. I'll talk to the mill, but i think you test moisture content to know when it is ready.

Wow, from tree to guitar. That's a brave and interesting challenge.

General rule of thumb is roughly an inch per year for drying time is what I've been told. There is plenty of info on the internet about how to store drying timber. Things like stacking, sealing the ends etc.

Kiln drying obviously is a much quicker process although I'm sure there are cons to doing that compared to air drying.

Hopefully I'm not dead or given up guitar by the time the timber is ready 😁
It is really the idea of having something made from my parents property that can be handed down to my kids as it has lots of great memories.
If all else fails I can make furtinure out of it.
