Almost done fellas.... spent close to 6 hours straight working on the axe today. Got the final drilling, touch-ups and set-up done. All that’s left is the intonation to do. A sound demo will shortly follow . Just a quick question for those who own or have owned an explorer type guitar. Where is the strap button to the left of the body? I know one goes at the centre line on the output-jack side of the body, but what about placement of the strap button on the other side. Mine has a bolt on neck, so at present I’ve drilled through the centre of the neck plate and placed it there. Any better locations?

Very nice. Hard to believe it's your 1st build. Do you have any other wood working experience?

BTW, I'm just about done with my 1st build. It's lookin' good but I wonder how many attempts I'd need to get a kit that looks as good as a professionally made guitar..... If I do decide to build another kit that will be my goal. My goal for this kit was simply to do the best that I could and learn as much as possible.

Yeah that’s pretty much the best way to go about it. I have done woodworking before, and definitely shaping the headstock, sanding and staining were my favourite parts. I’m not a big fan of finishing, and I don’t rate the finish from spray cans, which I used on this build... the acrylic clear is soft and scratches easily and not very durable. I’ll use a varnish next time, something like wipe-on poly.

If anyone looks at this build, they won’t see all the mistakes and ugliness behind it ie. I had paint literally dripping from the body, had to refinish the neck twice coz the tru-oil simply peeled off etc. And I guess that’s the beauty of it. As someone told me, a good workman is not one who doesn’t make mistakes, but one who knows how to hide them

By the way, already planning my next build - Blueberry Burst ES335
