Certainly not a 3+3 set as the tuner positions relative to the centre would be reversed on three of them (plus you'd have four 'outer' tuners with one half screw hole and and one full screw hole).

Maybe they do make them as in your example and then trim them down to size. I'd have thought they'd have had three types of stamped outer enclosures, but maybe making them all the same and then chopping is cheaper. Whatever they do, they don't do it very accurately as I find they often don't seem to be the same size, or at least the post is in a slightly different position relative to the surround which effectively makes them a bit wonky. Sometimes you can move the four middle ones around to find a better fit, but it might be that some filing/grinding is the easiest option.

I'll probably never know how they came to be. All I really remember about purchasing them was that they were the first set of 6 lefties from a brand I recognized at a decent price that I had seen. Once I get the ferrules in, I'll do as you suggest and play with the four in the center to get the best fit and then try to trim down what doesn't fit. Simon, you're the first person to suggest that my pain with this may not be unique. There is some comfort in knowing that, at least.

No sanding or clear coat yet. Almost afraid to sand this for fear that I will mess it up... but it is beginning to look like it could someday be a guitar ;-)

Ah sea foam green, my old nemesis.....we meet again.
I am in the same position with a Red Strat. Need to wet sand clear, paranoid about messing it up.

That's a funny way of saying it's best colour on a Fender style guitar.

    ;-)

You're farther along than I am. Just flat sanding before the clear coat...and th n I'll decide if it needs more color....

I feel you may be deliberately misinterpreting the spirit of my statement.🤨

You don't need to clear coat a solid colour finish, you can just polish the colour coat. That's what I did with my Daphne Blue Strat refinish.

So just keep on sanding and then polishing until there's no trace of the seafoam green, and it will be perfect.

    (I'm with FW here).
