    Flatwounds would have done the trick in solving earth hum issue and also retaining the smooth feel and mellow sound. Maybe worth a look when doing a change of strings. They are not cheap but last a very long time and probably sound just a bit brighter than the tape wounds.

    Thanks guys.

    Jazz / R&B band I used to play in, the bass player used this type of strings, plus black on red looks cool - nostalgia choice really.

    It wasn't till trial assembly that I realised I was insulated from the instrument - will look into flatwounds when these ones have done their dash.
