    September GOTM

Apologies for the late start - got caught up with the Ashes!

September Guitar of the Month (for Guitars and Basses finished in August)

Enter your finished guitar or bass here to be judged for the Pit Bull Guitars September Guitar of the Month.

    Please remember:

For Guitars or Basses finished on (or before) the end of August.

One guitar/bass per member per month.
It must be a Pit Bull Guitars kit (mods and upgrades acceptable).
Guitar or Bass must be finished and playable.

We need at least 4 photos:
    · full guitar shot from the front;
    · close up of the body finish;
    · shot of the back of the guitar; and
    · close up of the headstock (please, no brand name logos)

Please post your photos in this thread. If you are having issues posting photos on the forum, please email them to brendan (at) pitbullguitars (dot) com

Please note: This competition is open to amateur guitar builders only. If you are making and selling guitars for profit, you are ineligible. Also while there are some stunning guitars around - you never know what the judges are looking for, so we encourage anyone who's built a Pitbull during the month to enter!

Competition for closes at the end of August (Perth Western Australian time).

The sorts of things we judge on include:
    · How well have the body and neck been prepared
    · Is the choice of finish for the style of guitar appropriate
    · How well has the finish been applied
    · How well has all the hardware, pickups, etc, been installed
    · Does it have the 'Wow Factor'· Which guitar would you make a beeline for in a guitar shop. That is, which one would you most like to take home.

BTW - remember that the winner is invited to be a guest judge the following month!

Howdy all. Been a while. This guitar (Forty in 2020) is a joint venture between my best mate's wife and I for his 40th next year.

Antique white base with paint pen artwork by the Steph, clear coat over the top. Custom water slide which I printed myself and took forever to blend with clear! Painted the face only of the headstock, which was surprisingly easier that I had anticipated.

Set in some uncirculated 1c coins from his year of birth, because he's always gotta give his two cents!

Upgraded P90 to a hot custom wound from Martin A Smith in Perth. 500k volume and 250k tone CTS pots in Vintage wiring.

Absolutely over the moon with the finished product. Wish I could keep it for myself!

Martin nailed the pickup by the way, check him out...

First Christmas Pressie "Little Bear 1"

    Hey Everyone

I've finished the first of two ST's I'm building for my daughters for Christmas this one is a ST-L
my plan was/is to make these as personalised as I could for them I've done what I can.
this is basically stock the only changers are the black pickguard and tremolo cover, and I had the neck plate engraved.
I left the pickups and controls white (Dave Gilmore Black Strat style )
The finish is DNA Custom Paints, colour shift "Nebula" (Dark Blue/Purple/Violet/Orange), Over a black base coat, and enough clear coats bring out the effect and gloss without losing the feel of the timber, it was a fine line
I had the neck plate engraved by Melbourne City Engraving, Phillip did a fantastic job

If anyone is wondering about the name of the guitar "Little Bear", that was her nick name when she was growing up (she's in her mid 20's now)

    hope you all like it

    Stephen

Heres a couple more pics, it's really hard to get a good representation of the finish, being colour shift it really needs movement to see the full effect.
I'll also put one of the whole present.
Now all I need to do is work out how to get it from Melbourne to Brisbane in one piece

With those 3 entries already, this month is not the month to be finishing a kit because the benchmark has been set high already. Awesome job on each.

I wanted to build a travel guitar, but I also love Jazz.
This started out as a PRS-H1 kit. I removed the top and replaced it with a hand carved, X-braced arch-top made from a one-piece billet of Huon Pine. I have fitted a floating Gretsch Mini-humbucker mounted to the end of the neck. I completely hollowed out the body, removing the center block. To enhance the acoustic properties the finish is a very light coat of French Polish over a soft yellow honeyburst buffed to a satin finish. I have converted it to a bolt on design so I can remove the neck to make it fit into over-head luggage on a plane. I fitted threaded inserts into the end of the neck for longevity.
