    Stetsbar and after-market tremolos?

    Hi,
I am building a Tele delux style guitar, I was wondering if anyone recommend the Stetsbar style tremolo? Or would something else work better?

I've been mulling over the idea of getting an aftermarket tremolo.
One thing that irritates me about the Fender is the action going up and down as you use it.
Entertaining the idea of a 'Trem-King' as it's a lot cheaper than a Stetsbar.
The disadvantage is in the intrusive fitting it onto your guitar.

Main consideration though is 'am I really gonna be using it enough to offset the cost?'
    So the mulling continues

    cheers, Mark.

I’ve mulled over the Stetsbar as well. I like the idea of it. They aren’t cheap though, and I’m not that much of a whammy bar user so I haven’t got around to it yet

What about routing a hole for a mustang style tremolo?
I would try this but am worried about string height and adjusting the neck pocket with a shim too much

I did try it with my JM-1 build.

Maybe from using el-cheapo parts but I haven't managed to get it to work properly.
I want to get my hands on a Jazzmaster to see if this is the case.

    Meanwhile it's just not used.

    cheers ,Mark.

Looks cool though. Do you think it’s the cheaper parts or the setup? I’ve seen a fender custom shop interview talking about the difficulties in getting it right.

I didn’t mean to suggest YOUR setup wasn’t right before, just heard it was hard to do, sorry if it came off as rude

Could be either. I ran out of patience with it.

Lost count how many times I've removed the strings to test it out.
It's currently in the 'too hard' basket whilst I gird my loins for the next hair-pulling round.

    cheers, Mark.
