I like black. My son has got his mind set on white.
White pearloid might be nice too.
For this go around, we are simply going to install the stuff that came with the kit.
Next year's birthday, we can upgrade the electronics to his taste if he still plays it.
If he doesn't, it will get upgraded to my taste.
Either way, its a win!
got the wiring done today.
put the screws to the pick guard. this is the stuff that came with this kit; phase 1.
spent a few minutes with needle files to clean up the saddles a bit.
asking for strings.
I like the white guard (I don't think black would have worked as well, jmo). However, I'm a real sucker for white pearloid! That would look really good if you decide to do the upgrades later.
Coming along nicely though. Be sure and let us know how plays & sounds when it's all settled!

got it strung up and set up... ...almost:
almost = the fact that the nut slots are not big enough to allow the strings to sit in them. There are slots for each string, but the 3 wound strings do not bottom out on the slot, but rather sit on the two top corners of each slot, if that makes sense.
The bone nut was a beauty that Adam sent my way that was a touch too wide to fit in the nut slot in the neck. Thanks Adam!
The customer support offered by PBG is second to none.
I had to sand the sides of the nut a bit until it just slipped in the neck.
Then I sanded the back of the nut until I got close.
As it sits right now, the frets are 0.043" tall, and the bottom of the string slots in the nut are 0.044" to 0.035" above that.
A cheap set of 'nut files' (welding tip cleaners) should get me home from here.
They're in the mail now.
I'm with you McCreed. White pearloid should be spectacular!
I am warming up to the white the more I look at it.
It might look weird with anything else after a while.

My Ash tele kit (TLA-1) was quite heavy. I ended up doing some extraneous routing for weight relief. (knocked off about 240 grams - a noticeable difference)

I just put it on a kitchen scale; 6lbs 9.7oz, that just a few grams under 3kg.
It's rather light and comfortable to play.
I find the neck a bit fat. Never noticed it until I got to playing with it.
It's not objectionable, buy feels like a new girl in my hands. Still getting to know her.
