Plus 1 for the flap disc. i have a battery powered 125mm angle grinder, couple it with 80grit discs and a gentle touch, they are very effective on the belly cut.

Just wear gloves, a respirator, goggles and make sure you know where all of your fingers are in relation to the disc at all times. There is a nice little scar on my fret hand middle finger as a continuing reminder for me.

I would would have use sander all the way if I knew that basswood is so soft . The other reason try to remove as much material prior to sanding is I am asthmatic, and always conscious try to minimise myself expose to fine dust.

Remember to use a dust mask when you are sanding. They are a pain, but stuffing up your lungs isn稚 worth it.

Almost weekend, time to update my progress.

    1. Reroute the pick-up cavity. Wish my router bit is long enough to reach the bottom, but I think is deep enough.

    2. Level the fret.

    3. Create small indentation on the edge, similar to binding.

    4. Stain the body.

    5. And finally I have glue and trim the fabric.

    Very nice.
How are you going to finish the edge where the fabric rolls over? Some kind of piping or something?

Also to backtrack a little, I'll third the flap disc on an angle grinder as well. Just need to go slow as it will remove material very quickly.

    Keep the pics coming too!
