Has anybody built one, got one, even touched one?

I can not find much online about the nature of the manufactured from cottonwood......ZEBRAWOOD.

I just ordered one. Apparently it has a foul smell when working with it, but I dunno. Currently looking for clues myself

You've all probably found this same statement, but I'll post it anyway:

Reported very hard to thickness. Does not like sanding, planing, or scraping, though scraping is best. Unpleasant odor while working it. Easy to gouge out and make deep holes when planing. The soft part is very soft(relatively) and the grain is very hard. It has splinters like sabers, and twice as sharp.

I found this on two different tonewood database websites.

However, the new z-wood kits have definitely caught my eye though...

This is Zebrano, Microberlinia, otherwise known as Zebrawood, though the term gets applied across the woods of a couple of different African and Central American tree families.



It’s hard, and has cross linked fibres that make it....interesting to work with.

I can confirm it does smell when working it. Respiratory protection and eye protection is recommended.
I have two bookmatched sets of it for future FrankenLab experiments. If Igor can stop distracting me, one set is going to be the face of a superstrat, built along the lines of an MSK Guitars MK1HH24.

The PBG zebrawood kits aren’t Zebrano. This is from the PBG site...

Good observation Fretworn. I missed that on my first look.

I wonder now what "treated with colour" means exactly, and how it would effect using a dye or stain.

They are still eye-catching though...
