Hey Sonic, add me to the "I'm glad you kept going" club. I love guitars with character and this one has it in spades.
Rarely does a build go exactly to plan and as long as you stick with it the evolved end result quite often ends up better.
Looking good.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the encouragement.
First sealing coat of ploy on. After this one I will go to brush on and focus on filling up the cracks and borer holes. Then hopefully I'll be able to cut it back and do a final spray finish over everything. I imagine this process will take a while.
Very happy with the colour and there is some great figuring in the wood. Planning on a black/white/black 3 ply pick guard and chrome hardware.. a bit like the classic SG look.

First coat of brush on. Feeling confident, it's already sunk into the cracks etc quite a lot, there are some small bubbles caused by escaping air, but I think a sand back once it's hard and a recoat and it'll be apples.
Going to take a while to get properly hard I think..... tell you what, not bad application wise considering its been done with a cheap brush. This Cabots exterior marine poly, in a tin rather than rattle can.

Slowly slowly. The cracks are filling up nicely and I think it's going to look really good once I get enough poly built up. The grain is unbelievable.
Some pics of paint drying. Patience, patience.

How many coats so far?
FrankenLab
Hand crafting guitars, because Death Rays are expensive.
I guess around 6 or 7 with one really good sanding back so far. I've switched back to the spray can as its easier to lay down a thinner coat that drys quickly. Brush gives decent coverage, but it's harder to get even and resulted in a couple of drips.. which take ages to dry.
I reckon I'm about 50% of the way there filling the major cracks.
