Thread: My 2nd build - ATL-1FW

    My 2nd build - ATL-1FW

Right, here we go again. After almost a year's lay off due to health then winter in Australia, I've purchased this kit from Adam. It's a much nicer body than last year's Thinline, with a thicker top and Flame Maple veneer.

So I'm planning what colour to do this one. Blue or deep red but I keep coming back to blue, similar to Woltz's build.

Slight problem out of the box with the size of the neck cavity, almost 1mm too small. Quite a bit of sanding from both sides to get the neck to fit.

I don't wanna use the entire pickguard as I don't want to hide the grain of this guitar. Any suggestions as to how I can get a plate that will cover the curved control cavity, or just sheer off the last few inches to cover the cavity and hold the electronics???

Nice looking kit. The quality of the “A” kits does seem to be much higher.

I'll be receiving almost the exact same kit in a few weeks. I also wanted a smaller pickguard to show off more of the maple. My guitar is being modified to accommodate the hybrid pickguard. Here's an example that I found through a search.

    Hey guys,
Any advice on this control cavity cover problem? Just butcher the pickguard or does anyone know where I can get a cover, plastic or metal to cover the curved cavity??
    Cheers

    You could try http://www.warmoth.com/
They do a lot of custom work and might be able to help.

You should be able to source pickguard blanks from Australian Luthier supplies, StewMac or fleaBay pretty easily to shape your own.

if you want something metal, most big box stores or small engineering supplies store can do stainless or aluminium sheet, or you can get stuff cheaply on eBay.

Hand crafting guitars, because Death Rays are expensive.
