    Chris's First Build - JMA-6

I had the most awesome Christmas prezzie!

So far I've only got as far as a mock build and check that the neck lines up ok...

    A few initial thoughts:

I quite like the way the grain ripples out from the pot-plate so I'd like to do a finish that brings that out and also goes with (or contrasts with) the red scratchplate. Thinking a ochre'ish finish might be cool and slightly unusual or would that be too light to bring out the grain? are there any finishes that I should avoid attempting as a first-timer?

I think I'd like to avoid the classic Fender headstock shape as I don't want it to pretend to be anything it's not but I don't think a modern superstrat style would work either. Thinking I'll try a few sketches and see if I can arrive at an original shape, which might be a tall order given the shape and size constraints...

I saw an earlier post about pickups and I think I'll wait until it's built before I decide whether to swap them out, especially as I haven't played a baritone before so will probably wait to hear how each position sounds.

Finally, it's taking every ounce of self control for me to not peel of the protective plastic from the scratchplate!! Anyone else have that problem??

Alright, I'll just have to go find some bubble wrap to pop instead...

G'day Sam. Welcome to 'obsessives central'.
If you submit to temptation and disfigure it, I've got a spare that didn't get a run on my JM-1 kit.

    cheers, Mark.
