I kinda made a bad decision going with a moslike roller bridge. It raised the string height considerably vs using the stock TOM.
Been quite happy with my last fret level and general neck relief attempt.
Am going to try a shim at the deep end of the pocket to raise the neck angle to be greater than the bridge height at it's lowest. It's got heaps of adjustment up if I need it.

Agree with your string retainer idea. They sit quite high

What kind will you use? I’ve no idea where to start.

Thinking of using one of those two string holder's, just for the D and G. Like this one...

I think you’re so right on that Sonic.
Been stealthily tweaking it and....... It’s been strung up for a month and it’s now playing kinda/quite well.
Here’s what’s happened in the last month.
    1. Neck has a little bow in it which has removed all of the buzzing. Still got a little more bow to achieve though.
    2. The truss rod is still completely loose
    3. Lowered the bridge.
    4. Took the height adjustment springs out of the bridge pup. To get closer to the strings as it was just a little bit too quiet compared to the booming neck pup.
    5. Level frets, crown frets, clean texta off frets
    6. Destroyed the zero fret trying to take off the plastic nut.
    6. Bought a set of frets and replaced the zero fret with a new one.
    7. Put on new nut with properly cut slots. I’ve discovered that a fret saw blade will cut the fret slots pretty well !!
I bought a pack of ten (cheap. I think $8) Only used one of them. Beauty!
    8. Ordered some string trees for the A&D and the G&B strings (not installed yet)

The ash body has a really nice resonance when I play unplugged which is kinda nice as I do that a lot to avoid getting in trouble with my boss lady.

I’ll put some photos up shortly.

    Hooray for guitars!!!

    Some close ups

Slots in the bone but are acceptable.
String height back to the tuners is very high! (String trees to come)

Amazingly the strings are now about 4mm closer to the pups and the action is not too high and nice (but I prefer a little lower.....we’ll see how that evolves)
