    Guitar Myths

Came across this on Reddit. Have to say since delving into the world of guitars I have noticed there is even more woo-woo and misinformation floating around than the modified car community.

    This guy seems pretty rational.

Darrell is pretty cool, and is an awesome player too...

But his savage hacking of a Red Strat with a jig-saw had me in tears....

You must have similar YouTube recommendations to me, I saw this one earlier today. It was an interesting watch for sure. I think the only one that really made me wonder was the string gauge myth. Perhaps the blind sound test video is in order for that one. So many of the myths involve how a different tactile feel can trick you into thinking that the tone is different.

Interesting stuff but he failed to elaborate that certain iconic guitars have their own unique and distinct voice.

Think Strat vs Tele, or Les Paul vs SG vs Explorer vs Flying V......there are similarities but hard to get exactly the same sounds which is why we all seem to have at least one of each of our favourites.

Didn't agree on maple board vs rosewood theory.....being mostly a Bass player you can pick the difference and my preference is maple as it does have a brighter and snappier sound, particularly when using round wound strings.

I don’t know, I once saw an interview with BB King where he drew attention to his ‘fence wire like’ thickness of strings. I wonder where he gets his info from. Call me crazy but I believe you can hear the difference between significant differences of string gauges.

I was very pleased to pick the rosewood from the maple in the blind test.

I guess a lot of what he's saying in this video is that even if there's a discernible difference in any of these minor differences, it's not worth paying a premium for. Better to pay for comfort, build quality and playability.
