    Body crack repair

    Hi Guys,
Just started building an IB-6S kit this week.

Day 1, the dry fit and mock build went great with some minor sanding required for neck fitment. Day 2, after disassembling, I started sanding the body, 120 to 180 to 240 and had it ready to start finishing. Day 3, I find the body had cracked from near the 1/4" jack cutout through to the back of the guitar to the electronics bay cutout. Looking back at the pictures (have been taking lots for a build diary) the body was not cracked the day before.

My best guess is the humidity/temperature change from wherever the body was in Australia to here in the Canadian parries was too much too fast for the wood to cope with.

So going from here, i'm thinking sanding some more in order to build up a bunch of sawdust in the cracks, then hitting it with thin super glue from inside the electronics bay such that it flows through the sawdust and crack to the outside of the body should hold things together. I'm planning to finish the sides and back with an opaque finish so I'm not too worried about the wood in that area not taking stain. The face and the veneer seem unaffected.

Is there a better way to repair this? should I wait on the repair to see if the wood is going to settle and crack some more?

    Thanks

I did a repair in a neck pocket that was cracked all the way through on my LP kit. I drilled a small hole at the end of the crack so it couldn't continue then gently prised it apart and pushed some Titebond in and clamped it closed. It's over a year now and it's never re-appeared.

That's the way to do it. Titebond or other wood glue and clamp. Not super glue for this.

Yeah, super glue can end up very brittle around the edges where it dries. Agree with using Titebond or PVA (Aquadhere) should be OK too.

You may want to thin it with some water, say 50/50, to help it seep down into the crack.
