Surprised for you to say the Stingray never found the sweet tone spot as they have such a distinctive sound.

Probably need more info on the PUP's in your RC4 as $20 bucks sound awesome value to fix an odd couple of standard kit PUP's.

I agree re the stingray. It is a truly beautiful instrument. The sound isn't organic enough for me, a description which is truly hopeless I know.
I have the rca apart at the moment, here's a photo of the front pickup, they are an identical pair. I'm standing in with a band currently and played it for the first time on the weekend and they all commented on the tone, particularly on the bridge pickup. I have them wired as the 4004.
The bridge pickup has lots of midrange punch, both on are super for fingerstyle and the neck pickup is bassy but still has enough tone to not be too muddy. It stands up against my jazz special and my homemade bass, and I do prefer the tone to the stingray, crazy though that is!
I had a quick look on eBay, but I couldn't find them. I'll have another look if anyone is interested.

So the onboard active eq doesn't help shape the Stingray sound enough? Some of them are equipped with 3 band eq and presumed that would provide plenty of scope to dial in a preferred sound?

Mine is the 2 EQ version, but I'm not sure that's it, it's probably just my ears!!!

Here's those bass pickups in my RCA 4 on eBay. Played them for another rehearsal today, and still like the range of tones. I should mention they are low output, as I have a 500w head it really doesn't matter to me. The tone is still nice.
