    In a Mad Rush...

So, I'm trying to finish the first phase of finishing on this project for the inevitable break I'm going to be forced to take for my foot surgery.

    Stained the fret board black.

Got the black lacquer on...working on cleaning up some areas where the tape failed and I got over spray, but pleased overall...

Nixed the wood inlay idea. I did some practice runs, and I'm just not comfortable enough to start ripping into that top. Maybe on the next project...or maybe I'll come back to this one and try it when I feel like I have developed some real skill. Instead, I'm doing a decal for the logo on the body. Cheesy, yes...but we'll see how this works out...

Got two, maybe three days to see how many coats of clear lacquer I can get on...then, it's getting set aside for some long cure time...

    Hi Gordo,

Where in Montana? Well, there are plenty of pawn shops Here's a few: Music Villa (Bozeman), Guitars of Montana (Great Falls), Montana Guitar Shop (Paradise), Morgenroth Music (Missoula), Hansen Music (Billings), Greg Boyd House of Fine Instruments (Missoula), Stringed Instrument Division (Missoula), Electronic Sound and Percussion (Missoula)...of course, Gibson actually makes acoustic guitars in Bozeman (I think they do tours)...Len Waters (Butte), Drum Attic Drums & Guitars (Butte), Piccolo's Music (Helena)...those are the bigger towns, and I don't get around much (Montana's a huge state) so I'm not even sure if they are still all around. If you're going to be travelling around, I would ask the locals about pawn shops that sell guitars (we have one here in Libby that has TONS of guitars, though they're way over-priced) and there seem to be little custom shops in places you'd never expect...hope that helps

So, when it starts to snow, I should probably stop spraying lacquer on the porch...right?

Well, this is as far as I can get for a while...I lost track of how many coats...lots (is "lots" a unit of measurement?)...come back to this for wet sanding and polish in about a month. Lots of time to figure out all the other details
