    Maple fretboard finish options

Brain picking time. No doubt this has been answered before but never having owned or built a guitar with a maple fretboard i need some help. Im looking to build a jazz bass with a maple fretboard but im unsure how to finish it. Is it usually finished the same as the back of the neck? Any advice greatly appreciated

Hi Thigg, plenty of ways to do it from using wax, lemon oil, or same neck finish all over which is my preference.

On my J Bass and the Swampy Tele Tru Oil was used. Didn't tape any frets as once finished I just used those slotted metal fret polishing guides with 0000 steel wool to strip finish off the frets. Came up looking like a typical F style maple board.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers, Waz

Builds # 4 & 5 in signature were maple boards done with Tru Oil.

A 'stupid' question... But I'd rather sound stupid than be sorry

You don't sand the maple fretboard prior to applying tru-oil, do you?
    or you do?
