Cheers Marcel, I must confess I really haven't listened to the radio in years so I'm probably around a couple of decades out of touch!

Glad to know I'm not the only one. I don't own a radio. The aerial on the car is broken so it's CD only . Personally I can't handle the babble of the air head DJ's.

Not to mention poor playlist content too.

It gets pretty quiet in my shed when I'm building a project or repairing something... so in one corner I have an old car stereo hooked up to a small battery and a charger and a old set of speakers just so there is some sounds of civilization to go with the real feathered birds tweeting outside. It's not much but out of the 8 or so stations I can tune in on there is usually something reasonable to have filling in the background while I'm up to my elbows in my task...

I agree to your playlist comment Waz. Of all the music there ever has been created they do seem to concentrate on a very short list for too much of their time. And the 'air head' comments from some of the DJ's do make 'WTF?' a real thing.... Sadly the 'Wow!' moments are getting fewer and father apart...

Living on the edge of Brisbane radio reception there are so many stations and most not worth listening to.
I have found MMM has a format that is to my liking with more 70's through to today, predominantly rock based rather than the plastic rnb hiphop stuff on SEA FM or similar stations aimed at teen market. Bonus is being a NRL fan i get to listen to that banter and live game broadcasts too.

Surely you've got an ICxxxx Mkyy or FT-zzzz running in the shed that can tune to broadcast segments, or even the narrowcasters at 150 MHz...

(No, I haven't bothered either, other than using them as beacons...)

An IC-706MK2G with MFJ-945E in the house, A FT-8900 in the 4WD and a Baofang B-580T in the shed.... they get me by...

Anyway, the loudspeakers on the car stereo are a pair of JBL's rated at 100W RMS. That's for just in case a really awesome song comes on...lol

One of my mates in Brisbane has around 1Tb of mp3 that he plays on random select in his workshop, I doubt he hears the same one twice very often

For a bit of perspective about digital audio, I recommend this video. It's over 20 minutes in duration, but well worth the time.

The presenter is Chris "Monty" Montgomery, the creator of the Ogg Vorbis container and codec. He knows his stuff, and has quite an engaging presenting style.
