Well it has been a steep learning curve using GIMP, final worked out how to make some really clean detailed cut outs of images which look great, thanks for the tip Sonic. Just now need to try and find the right you tube tutorial on how to anchor the guitar shape, resize things and layer them. I am sure it is out there somewhere, just takes forever to wade through them all.

Ok, so I’ve never used it so this is just the general gist of how it should work. You should be able to create layers in the document. Ideally you want to make the page size (possibly called an artboard) a rectangle big enough to fit the guitar image/shape at life size+ a couple of mm. If your machine struggles making the image life size you can work at 50% pretty safely and let the printer scale it up. Paste and scale the guitar into a layer and then lock it. Then you need to make new layers for each of your bits of comic art. Paste them in and start arranging. You should be able to drag the layers above and below each other to make the art work overlap how you want. If you are still struggling, pm me the photo of the guitar body and some measurements and I’ll set that up for you to work from as a single jpg layer.

Thanks Sonic, that is pretty much what I had figured, just trying to find all the right commands in the program, I am glad I persevered with it as the cutouts look fantastic. Start fiddling around with it today and see how we end up.

Well, my first attempt at a burst, pretty happy with it so far, but may need to go back over as the ash is sucking up so much colour.

Bit of a long shot but does anyone in Brisbane have a router bit to cut a 1.6mm (.60") binding trench? I have a few router bits with roller bearings, but are having a lot of trouble finding a bearing that will give me this cut out depth. I see StewMac has them, but at $70 plus postage, it is not really feasible for a one off job. Hopefully I can manage to source a bearing, but just seeing if there is someone one out there that has one.

you could always try miniature bearings Australia https://www.minibearings.com.au

i've used them to source really small bearings for different things including Replacements for .250" shank router guide bits.

You might be able to pull something out of their range to give you what you need in conjunction with another larger head bit.
