So ive got about 5 sets of tuners in different colours and finishes and a set of tuning knobs in real white pearl.
So after dismanling all of them i found a set with similar hole and screw sizes. About .02 too small. So i filed down the tuner spline and gently tapped them on. Perfect, the screws fitted perfectly as well. So now i have my own customised tuners with oversized tuning pegs. YES!

    Mix & match!
I love it when this works (sometimes it just doesn't). Adds to the uniqueness of an instrument.

Next a quick sand of the body and 3 coats of a G.M Holden colour, Phantom Mica, black with minute flecks of red, blue and green.
Then a week to dry, very wet here at the moment, inspection then more coats before the final 2k finish.

I've missed seeing the start of this build. All very interesting.

Can I ask if you've checked whether two of those large-button tuners will fit side-by-side on the headstock when the buttons are parallel with the headstock? From the photos it looks like it could be a very tight fit and there's a possibility they could clash and you can't turn them. You never know what angle they'll end up at when the guitar is in tune.

Yea all is good. But i want opinions on doing something different, putting 3 aside on a 6 inline headstock using oversized pegs.

Pretty radical but i like different.

SO DOES THIS LOOK GOOD OR IS IT CRAP? ALL CRITICISM EXCEPTED AND NEEDED. THANKS

Personally, I wouldn't do the large buttons on my guitar. I find tuning is a real PITA if the button don't have enough space between each other, and I have small hands and fingers. I would imagine someone with sausage fingers, the difficulty would increase exponentially.

BTW, I am in no way implying that you yourself have said sausage fingers...

Lol, i was blessed with small hands, but i appreciate the criticism. What about the 3 aside, too weird?

    Too wrong mechanically.

With normal tuner orientation, the string tension pulls the string post so that the gear at its base is pulled against the worm gear on the button shaft and minimises any slack or wear on the gears.

Reverse this, and the gears are pulled apart by string tension, so you end up with more backlash, and the tuners become looser and looser as time goes by. It might work for a while when the tuners are new, but with use, you’ll have three dodgy tuners quite quickly.
