Up early for the Dawn Service at the local cenotaph.

Normally we are rugged up as winter is approaching but today most were in shirtsleeves.

Just as the Catafalque Party mounted the cenotaph it started to drizzle. Not a movement, not an umbrella from the crowd.

As the Last Post sounded the rain eased and as the minute silence started, the local bird life offered up a chorus.

The march was mostly school kids, girl guides and scouts, which made it a community affair.

Then back home to attend to domestic duties, which I am afforded the luxury of being able to do by those who made the sacrifice.

I admit that I am an agent of Satan, however, my duties are largely ceremonial.

This is how you make a commemorative speech:

The Prime Minister of France at Villers-Bretonneux

Turnbull is copping a bit of a pizzling it seems. (Deservedly or not, it is not mine to say).

But in fairness, the French Prime Minister's speech is a cracker.

I'm a bit late to this thread, but I'll share my experience.
Since I was feeling under the weather I didn't attend the local Dawn Service, but as a member of the local brass band, I knew I had a full day ahead of me.
First up was a mid morning service at Forth, a small village near where I grew up. The band lead the short parade, then played backing for a couple of hymns and the National Anthem. One of our younger members played the last post.
Then we traveled to Ulverstone for the main 11.30 service.
On top of marching the parade through the streets to our memorial, the band also played the Hymn Recessional and the Two National Anthems(God defend New Zealand & Advance Australia Fair), but with one difference this year.
I was asked a couple weeks prior to be the singer for this service, which I felt was huge honor. Unfortunately due to my head cold, and sore throat, it could have gone a lot better!

I still received some good comments about it, some thought I was nervous, but soon realised when I started talking why the hymn especially came out a bit pitchy!
One friend from NZ was especially pleased with how I performed his National Anthem.
