Do try to keep playing don't give it away completely for 30 odd years like I did makes it so bloody hard to get everything working again.
Even if it's only some 12 bar jamming every other week.

To be honest I had 3 years off to expand my family and study at uni. I haven’t really enjoyed it in the 4 years I’ve been back. I’m looking forward to my last gig because it becomes more work than fun. I’m on some pretty heavy duty painkillers for my back, another reason for the retirement as well.

When it is no longer fun and feels like a job, very hard to enjoy. Been there and done that before.
Maybe a break away for a while will give you time to rediscover some passion for live performing. You talent is worth preserving and should be seen out in public again some time in the not too distant future.
