Performance anxiety, I'm old but a novice player. My son has the skill, I'll see what I can arrange.
I know how you feel. I've been "playing" guitar for quite a while but never feel I have anywhere near the skill I should have. And playing in front of people is very daunting.

I'd be happy with even just a few chords strummed for each of the settings. Nothing fancy.

Daunting you say, DAUNTING??? Last week at my lesson I had a 4 line piece, 4/4 in F, had it down perfectly at home. Muffed a note in the first line so went back to the beginning and then totally mangled it. Ended up so tense I went through the music verbally calling the notes and told the teacher what the rests, repeats, dots etc meant. This week I'm going to take a phone recording of the homework in case I freeze again :-(
    Oh well I didn't pi$s myself :-)

Way back when I raced bikes I was usually a bit nervous on the grid, the starter dropped the flag and then it was SOOOO GOOD. This guitar playing is the opposite, the longer the performance the greater the pain.

It does get easier with time and practice.

Hope I live long enough to get there ;-)
My son is 42, he's been gigging since 15 and still gets nervous in the hour before a show. Once he hits the first note it's all gone and he goes into full pro mode. Comes off stage walking 6" above the ground.

Just to continue with the thread hijack, back when I was gigging stage fright certainly wasn't an issue but after 35+ years away from the stage I have a feeling that the next outing could be tense.

We did some recording down at Sussex Inlet in early September and once we had tracked what we wanted we had a jam and despite picking the songs we played I couldn't hit a note.

I am blaming the recording process because we have gone from jamming for about 4 hours one night a week + solo practice to working our 30 second solos & fills for original stuff so playing is greatly reduced.

Nothing beats repetition of stuff when you need to tie it down so between now and May I have to relearn all of the stuff we had in the bag so we can promote the soon to be released album.

    Thread jacking is acceptable :-)

I'm sure from what I've gleaned from your posting that you and company will kill it! You have the miles in the bank.
I'm finding just now learning to read and play a different piece each week when I look back a few weeks I'm lost. Reasonably quickly I get into the older piece again, it isn't re-learning, it's refreshing the memory.

Don't get too worried about performance when doing a sound demo. People want/need to listen to the sounds made by the guitar, not your playing. So keep it simple. Maybe just pick out the notes from a chord, strum a chord etc. Just try and demonstrate all the different sounds and pickup combinations, clean and with a bit of dirt added.

You need to run through your material outside your comfort zone.
I usually road-test new tunes by going to the local park and practice under a rotunda.
You can get the same effect by sitting in your front yard (or the rear..same diff).

    cheers, Mark.
