    So hand rubbed stain bursts......

    Yeah/Nah.

The back has yet to get its final riming of Japan black, but I need to retape before that happens as, once it’s done, I will be reshooting the black sides and the neck and HS.

Final headstock shape is now set, just some fine sanding touch up to do.

I had thought to carve fading channels down from the head piece in toward the inlay. But then I said “Shut up Igor!” And continued on my merry way. Aside for now while I wait for tape to arrive later in the week.

Don’t be too hard on yourself. The front doesn’t look so bad...I’ve seen worse.

Front looks great I reckon. Very 'vintage'.

The front is perfectly acceptable. The back's a bit 'meh' ATM but it's not finished. And if necessary you can always just go very dark on the back. It doesn't need to perfectly match the front.

Yes, Meh is about accurate. Still, as you say if it all goes pants I can go solid colour.

For example post 20 on my lockdown mandolin thread...

I see no reason why the back shouldn't be fine when it has the black.
