    New "builder" from Washington DC

I have no idea what I am doing but I think I have the patience to possibly build my first guitar. My wife got me the Explorer body kit as I have always wanted an Explorer. I genuinely have no idea where to start. I was thinking I need to paint this sucker but don;t even know what type of paint to buy? I am sure you can;t just get house paint right?

Welcome and have fun designing and building your Explorer ..and yep not sure on house paint mind you anything is possible. The wood in the Explorer body has a good grain so depending how much you are interested in grain you could accent the grain and with a strong colour semi transparent. There is lots of good info in this forum as I've discovered being a first time builder too; hints and projects to check out...have fun on your journey.

Hi Mastodon, Welcome to the ever growing PBG Explorer kit builders club.

Leave the house paint for houses as it is not really suitable on guitar bodies. If you plan a solid finish probably best to use Auto paints otherwise plenty of stain options worth a look.

    Cheers, Waz

Some options from a US suppliers.

It's worth doing a bit of research of the options. You've got time as you do need to spend a bit of time sanding the body to prepare it.
