Ah I read the thread now I understand. I had the same issue with neck pickup space and cut a few mm off the end of the fingerboard with no adverse affects. Am eager to make another kit soon

Have out 2 coats of intensifier on and the blue is starting to come through... still mainly in the grain but am starting to love it more!!! Pics don't do it credit.. I will try and get some in the right light... I am planning on another few intensifying coats and then go for the final!

    Opinions needed please.

I have decided to replace the cracked neck rather than botch a repair. But I am torn as to the design as I have been told I can have any design or wood. So the choice is between maple or blackwood fretboard. Although I prefer playing on maple, I think the darker wood would go better with the darker stain that I have ended up with... thoughts please..

But then I have narrowed the neck design down to:
    A) "Block" inlays - like on the AG models. Looking around at explorers, the necks seem to feature either dots or blocks.
    or
    B) the dragon design on the IB model. This looks super wicked and I have been thinking that this is something I want to use at this point. However, this design feels like it would go better with a block colour on the body. My guitar has an obviously natural finish and I am worried that the dragon doesn't fit with this feel..

Thoughts from experienced kit makers would be very much appreciated at this point!

Just saying, my experience with the dragon inlay wasn't a great one. It was very poorly done and there was excess glue all over the fretboard which led to me removing the frets in order to sand the fretboard... but maybe that was just me that had that problem so really it's up to you as to what you wanna do.

I would go with maple neck & fret board and stain it the same colour as the body. Plenty of sticker kits available for intricate inlays, dots or block markers.....check out build # 5 in my signature that has a metallic chrome barbed wire sticker kit which stands out on the darkened maple fret board.

    Cheers, Waz

Thanks for that input Joe. I was hoping someone would wade in with a quality statement on the dragon. I think I'll stick to the classics for now. Appreciate it.

Thanks for the input Waz. That build looks sick!

I can see where you are going with the darker stained maple, but might just stick with the blackwood as it sets off the body stain nicely. I also have black hardware so that will continue the theme through the neck. I don't really like the dots though so will go for blocks instead.

Here's a pic with the neck sitting in place (not the neck I will be using but there for the colour comparison)

    Looks Good Hesh.

Here is a link for lots of fret board stickers including block markers.....pretty sure the barbed wire and blocks used on my J Bass came from this supplier in the USA.

    https://www.inlaysticker.com/

    http://www.ebay.com/bhp/guitar-inlay-stickers

There is also another really good supplier based in south east asia too, just cannot remember who but a bit of googling would find them.

    Cheers, Waz
