    Ah ha ha ha

I'm afraid this is less exciting than cardboard supplied by members of Thin Lizzie, or authentic '72 re-issue 'board.

I'm not actually sure what they're called, but it's the metal tag thing you put on your key chain - I've never taken it out to read it properly, but I think it's from Goulburn (the guitar came from a relative in Glbn, and I can see a phone number under the saddles which starts with the Glbn area digits 4821)

    But what is it for???

If it was to raise the string action, there looks to be plenty more adjustment in the saddle height screws. (?)

I think it was used to raise the strings, but put in by someone who didn't know how to set it up properly.

I'm 99% sure it's a home-made guitar - it looks like its a thin oil finish, and there's no logos anywhere.

It was a gift from a relative when I first showed an interest in playing, and then when I started tinkering I leveled the frets, but at the time I didn't notice the weird key fob thing holding the saddles up. I did an ok job with the fret leveling and nut set up, so now it plays fine and I couldn't be bothered taking it out and fiddling with adjustments again, ha ha.

Like they say... if it works don't fix it!

Plus you don't want to upset the mojo and invite in bad juju!

Got the frets levelled today, and started working on the nut but ran out of time/energy.

A bit of oil on the fretboard and it darkened up nicely.

I also seem to have lost the nice tall, flat bottomed chrome pickup ring I had. Because I've swapped to a humbucker sized pup it needs a boost to get to the same height as the P90 the kit came with. I have some low height chrome rings, but they aren't quite tall enough. I've just put two on top of each other and used some short springs to get the pup height right for the moment.

Also had a funny moment when I plugged it in and realised that while I had loud sound, the volume control didn't turn the sound down. Opened it up and sure enough, a completely unsoldered ground connection. No idea how I missed that, but there you go. 2 minutes later and it sounds/works great!

    Very nice John!
How do you like the GFS humbucker?
Did you make that neck caul?

I'm afraid I can't take credit for the neck caul - it's from PBG! (here)

The GFS pickup sounds really good so far, but I'll wait for a final verdict until I've got the guitar set up better and have played with it for a bit longer (and through more than one amp). I was pleasantly surprised by how nice it sounded through the 5E3 I built.
