    LP jr - JohnH's #5

I was very excited to drive over the ANU School of Art today - not only because they have the best damn coffee in Canberra right next door, but also because I picked up this beauty (which forum member @bobby_boy sadly had to part with; see here)

Postage from the Gold Coast was ludicrous, but due to Facebook and some very obliging friends (and father's of friends...) it made it's way down here to sunny Canberra, for me to collect from the Printmedia and Drawing Dept. ANU School of Art & Design.

I'm pretty excited. I've wanted one of these for ages, and was sad when they were no longer available. I haven't had much of a chance to look at it yet (kids, etc...), but the Grover tuners are pretty nice, and the fretboard is killer.

Nice pick up JH. very jealous as any LP appeals to my inner love 4 Jimmy Page.

I want to try something a bit different for this build - every instrument I've ever worked on has been stained brown or black, lol. I was thinking of using a bright colour - purple, or blue maybe because they kind of work with the nickel hardware (totally open to suggestions though)

I was almost tempted to try spraying it, but I know with our lifestyle it will literally take me five years to finish it. Tru Oil has always been great because I can do it in bits and pieces of an evening after the kids are in bed, and so I think a stain and TO will have to be the go this time too. Am keen to try a hand rubbed burst though.

I don't have much money to throw at this, and to be honest it all looks pretty great as it is, so apart from some electronic upgrades it'll probably stay pretty much as it came today.

Now though it's time to trawl through the build diaries for some inspiration!

Well, I guess the game is up as the pic below has secretly been my inspiration for my current JB4-A build. dont mind sharing. I had a PBG - LP custom kit priced and primed prior to the understandable issues only missing out by mere days back in august (still holding out hope for the future btw).. ...

Nice looking kit. The grain looks pretty cool.

Ha ha ha, yeah Guvna, that’s pretty much exactly what I had in mind, though I hadn’t seen that. At least now you’ve shown me that I can see it definitely looks great. And keep your eyes peeled man, I never thought I’d get this kit, but these things do come up I guess.

I’m going to pretend that’s the reason I’m not spraying it, lol

    (But yeah, it’s great!)

Good to see it went to a good home. Still a bit bummed out for Bobby, and I hope he can get back onthe horse, so to speak, in the future. I like the sound of your plans JH, will watch on with great interest.

Hand crafting guitars, because Death Rays are expensive.

That fretboard has some character. I plan on doing a hand rubbed burst myself, so I’m keen to see how your effort turns out. Good luck with the build.
