ST1-JR - Arachnoid superhero themed build

I've ordered an ST-1JR for my son. He's only young (turning four), but he's been 'helping' me build my other guitars, and has been asking for a 'spider man' guitar for about six months now.

I figure by the time we get it, and spend six months building it, he'll be getting closer to an age where we might feasibly teach him to play. In any case, I know he'll enjoy the build.

Not planning on doing anything fancy RE: upgrades - will try to keep it simple so he can enjoy the whole process from opening the box onwards.

As for the theme, still uncertain how we will go about making it a 'spider man' guitar. He has always maintained he'd like it to be a red guitar, so that's pretty easy. We talked about painting some imagery on, and then I thought maybe it would be a better idea to use stickers after it's been finished, so if he ever decides he doesn't like them he can take them off.

My most recent idea (and current favourite) is to buy a whole bunch of magazines and collage them onto the surface. I feel like he'll enjoy that the most, but also if it's done well he might not get sick of it as he gets older.

Anyway, not sure when it'll arrive, but looking forward to getting into it.

How good is that John, building a guitar together with, and for your son. I'm sure you'll both have fun.

Will it have spidey senses. The back could be blue and red with a white spider web

What a cool project with your boy

Just some thoughts, take them or leave them as you wish:
Red body, with spider man eyes in the area behind the bridge.
Spider web design on the headstock.
That way all the graphics are quite simple, but gets the point across.

    either way, have fun

Yeah, I feel like it's a pretty great project for us to tackle together. He's helped me build a bunch of stuff around the house - bookcases and things like that. He gets a kick out of it, so I figured it would be nice for him to have a project where the end result was something he could keep and enjoy

@Simon, @Stan, @JB - all great ideas guys, keep them coming! I'll need all the help I can get with this one.

That guitar is pretty cool Simon. I'll have to mock up a template on Photoshop so I can test how my graphics work around the pickups and pickguard

I love the thought of getting Spiderman comics and using them similar to how Fender used the paisley wallpaper on their paisley guitars. Attach them to the wood. Paint edges blue/red and lacquer it

I think collaging will work best. Build up a nice clear over it and polish it back.
