nice job, shame about the fret board.
i have done similar fixes this way:
put a few drops of grain filler onto the affected area. Whilst it is still wet, gently sand or scrape (with the edge of a razor blade) the timber area affected - if you are gentle it wont hurt the fretboard or take away too much material.
Move the resulting slurry around with your finger and use it to fill the gaps.
Leave it to dry hard, gently sand flat again - it gives a near seamless repair.

I have made it a practice to collect the sawdust from cutting fret slots or sanding radii to effect these types of repair, you just never know when you’ll need it.

Oh man, seeing that fretboard rip apart like that is troubling. I wonder how the blackwood is going to fare in the long term.

Hopefully the damage you have is is reparable. It may not be an aesthetic option you want to consider, but I have noticed that some Rickenbackers have lacquered high gloss fretboards. (At least it looks like they do)

    Here's an example:

    Perhaps this is an option?

Yeah, I'd considered it. Always wondered why only maple gets the lacquered finish outside of the Rickenbacker universe (to my knowledge anyway). Filled it with Timbermate. Wasn't too bad in the end. Had to trim off the hairy grains with a blade, and sanded her back.

Learnt a valuable lesson today. Check everything as it comes in.

A while back I ordered a more traditional Ric style bridge, had a quick glance and put her away.

Now that I'm getting closer to assembly, I have another gander, and notice that I need a checkout underneath it so it can sit flush. I'm worried sick about how the paintwork will go with the lam-trimmer scooting about on top.

Off to Bunnings to get a sharp bit and probably a new chisel too.

Oh dear, that face is understandable. What you need is some more tape under anywhere the base of the trimmer is gonna touch and slide around on. Also, if you chisel the outline of the cutout before you start with the routing there will be much less chance of the paint chipping out where you want to keep it.

Good luck. Deep breaths. You can do it.

EDIT: Almost forgot, don't try to do it to full depth in one pass. Multiple shallow cuts.

Yeah or even score the paint with a sharp blade where the edge will be. Good Luck!
