If you lay some paper between the board and the tape you should be okay, but it might make fret jobs a bit interesting.

Hand crafting guitars, because Death Rays are expensive.

What if you were to put some dingowax on the fretboard before puting the tape on,

I have found the tape could lift fibres a bit with rosewood, but nothing like that. I would say that the "blackwood" probably hasn't been compressed enough in manufacture, or something like that. Definitely a QA issue for the factory.
    Current:
    GTH-1

    Completed:
    AST-1FB
First Act ME276 (resurrected curb-side find)
    ES-5V

    TL-1TB
    Scratch Lapsteel
    Meinl DIY Cajon
    Cigar Box lap steel

    Wishing:
    Baritone
Open D/Standard Double 6 twin neck

to be honest i think you should send that neck back the fret board is 1 of the most important part of a guitar and effects many things if its not right, its a shocking looking piece of wood after a few bends that looks like it would fall apart specialty when blue masking tape can pull that much wood from it

I find myself agreeing with Phrozin. Possibly the factory are treating the boards as if they were real wood, and they might need more careful handling. Maybe they are using tools at too high a speed setting for the material and as a result the heat is weakening the glue in the fretboard?

You'll have to wait for Adam's hangover to subside before you get a reply.
