    (another) NGD - Vintage Strat

When I'm quiet at work I tend to have a lot of time to trawl the internet for bargains...

That brings me to this one, straight out of 1977, it's an original Fender hardtail strat in... Believe it or not, Olympic White!
I poped the neck and pickguard off after I got it to confirm and everything matches, neck date is December 77, pots are all 77 with untouched solder joints. The pickups are all grey bottom 77's and it's got the factory 5-way switch (first year for this being standard)

It's not heavy either, 70's strats have a reputation for being boat anchors but this one is really nice, it's bright and spanky as you'd expect a strat to be but doesn't get too shrill when you pile on the distortion. She's got an interesting, but unable to verify backstory as well.

Oh that's a nice find. Did you pull it out of a burning building?!?
It looks like it has seen a fair share of smoke filled bars in its life.

haha! yeah it's definitely been gigged/travelled, lots of smoke, sweat and temperature changes.

nice score Mick, all the paint has cracked, so it's in pretty good condition for a 40 year old axe. Never knew the neck plate was that shape with only 3 screws. You got to stop trawling the net for bargains haha

It came from a collection, some of the guitars were verified as belonging to an Aussie musician from a pretty well known band, this one had nothing solid as proof though.

it's actually a pretty good idea in theory, the fat bolt at the bottom actually screws into a metal thread in the neck heal and the small hole below it has a grub screw in it so you and adjust the relief of the neck without having to take it off and stick a shim in there. Most people just hate it because it's one less screw and supposedly makes the neck joint less stable. I've got a few 3 bolt neck guitars and i cant notice any difference.

that's a cool feature you can adjust the angle of the neck Mick.
My guess is this guitar possibly was owned by Ian Moss of Cold Chisel ?
I saw them play live Saturday night and they were unreal, awesome show

That axe is beautifully grungey, I bet it’s got some tales to tell.

Hand crafting guitars, because Death Rays are expensive.
