I bought a Washburn 6-string a few years ago that came with a Nubone nut, and that's about the only thing on the guitar that didn't have some issues. Don't know how it would hold up to a lot of play, but it seems OK.

Well anything has to be better than the crappy bit of plastic purporting to be a nut that came with the kit... The string spacing is not correct (uniform) and the slots are about 0.8mm too shallow and can't be made deeper without creating fret buzz.
The marketing for Nubone indicates it has very similar sonic qualities and is less fragile than bone. At just $5.50 a pop, I'm going to give it a go and will report back after set-up and test play.
