Tend to agree with Woks as best plan of attack.

    Thanks wokkaboy,

Yes as I stated before, I do have that wiring diagram, but what I have been supplied is 2 pots with the green capacitor and 2 without, so I'm assuming they have supplied 2 tone and 2 volume pots. The problem is this doesn't match the wiring diagram.

Also what is confusing with the wiring diagram is the separation of the white and red wires on the bridge humbucker pick up. It clearly shows the Green, white and bare wires going to ground on the Front coil Vol (250K) pot, black wire going to the centre terminal on the same pot, and red wire going to the centre terminal on the Rear coil Vol (250K) pot. I now believe based on the info above that the red and white wires should remain paired together.

I am really confused and certainly not happy with the results to date.

    Hope you can help.

Hi Maurie, I have to head out but will think about a solution. Have you got a multimeter you can check the resistance ? The humbucker must be coil splittable so check the resistance of different combinations with the earth wire. Two readings should be half of both humbucker banks. Don't take any notice of wire colours compared to the diagram as wire colours at the factory change.
Once you establish which wires of the humbucker to join and get the full resistance I think it's still best to start your wiring again and follow the PBG wiring diagram. Unless you want to coil split the humbucker you will need a mini switch or push pull pot.
I'll follow up later tonight or tomorrow.
Sounds like the factory have changed the wiring configuration so needs to be updated.

Do you want a tone per pickup or happy with a master tone ? I can search for some different wiring diagrams

    Thanks wokkaboy,

Yes I do have a multimeter, and I do believe the bridge humbucker is splittable according to info from wazkelly.

I would be happy with a volume and tone per pickup or a master tone, but I think I'm going to be restricted by the components supplied.

I would very much appreciate it if you could come up with a suitable wiring diagram.

Hi Maurie, just clip off one of the green capacitors and turn that pot into the neck volume control as that should then allow you to wire up as per wiring diagram for this Bass.

    Cheers, Waz

    Hi guys,

Firstly I must apologise for my slow responses. Unfortunately my work commitments at present are fairly hectic and don't get much time on this project, so thanks for your patience.

I have checked the pots as suggested and yes I do have 2 x A500k Tone and 2 x B500k Volume pots, so I have tried wiring it as per the IB5 wiring diagram (2 Humbucker 4 Pots) with the red & white wires soldered together and taped to prevent shorting. This has both pick ups sort of working. Unfortunately there are still more issues. The Ground hum/noise is still very overpowering and none of the controls are very definitive.

I am no electronics engineer, so given the components supplied I need all the help I can get.

Hi Maurie, no drama about the slow responses. The A pots should be volume and B pots should be tone. Have you run an earth wire that runs from the bridge plate to a common earth point ? Have you put shielding tape in the cavities ?
Must be some earthing issue we need to get to the bottom of.

    Hi wokkaboy,

    Thanks for your response.

Your saying the A pots should be volume and the B pots should be tone. I am now totally confused because on the pots supplied to me the A pots have the green capacitor fitted and according to the wiring diagrams these are the tone pots.

Have they fitted the green capacitor to the wrong pot?

Also they are all 500k pots and not 250k as suggested in the wiring diagram. Not sure if this is important.

Yes I have fitted an earth wire from the bridge plate, but I haven't fitted shielding tape in the cavities. I didn't think this would be necessary given that everything required to complete the guitar build was suppose to be included in the kit. At least this was my understanding when I agreed to the purchase.

Hope this info helps with your diagnosis, cause I'm stumped!

Hi Maurie, I'm sorry it's been such a headache to sort out the wiring. I'm not sure what the factory has done but they should be 250K pots. I'd send Adam an email and ask him to mail you 3 x 250K A pots (volume), 1 x 250K B pot (tone) and a capacitor and think best you start the wiring again using the PBG diagram. Sounds like you figured which 2 wires to join and insulate on the humbucker pup.
    Where are you located ?
Remember these kits are a basic kit and there are many ways to upgrade them and copper shielding has never been in any of the kits. The reason being Adam and the PBG team are keeping the costs of the kits to a bare minimum so they affordable to most people.

    Thanks so much wokkaboy.

I figured there had to be something wrong with the components supplied, but with my lack of knowledge just couldn't figure it out.

I will email Adam and hope he can help.

    Thanks again.
