Checked everything out in daylight yesterday and amazed not more damage was done. Firies must have arrived in the nick of time.

The business I closed up last year was heavily into Survival stuff and my forum always stressed that every member of the family had a bug out bag. A pre-packed back with a change of clothes, a few changes of underwear and socks, long life food for 3 or 4 days and few little things like a emergency blanket or swag, swiss army knife and torch and a bic lighter. Also copy all your important documents ( birth cert,passport, bank and motgage and INSURANCE papers) and put it on a memory stick in the bag. Flood , fire, earthquake , zombies, you just never know when the stuff is going to hit the fan. Emergency services will be pretty pleased if you turn up at a shelter with your own food and blankets.
Doesn't cost much and can make a big difference in tough times.

Spot on Deddy. Up here we see it on TV all the time as each storm season rolls around to prepare an evacuation kit and devise an evacuation plan but become so desensitised after a while that apathy takes over and nothing happens.

Best wake up call for myself and taking steps to be better prepared for any drop stuff and leave event.

Got a note in the mailbox today advising that back burning of our dangerous stuff is about to start.

Hi Andy, all good.

Flames came within 60m - 70m of our front door and they were about 3m - 5m off the back fences of neighbours across the street. Didn't panic or waste time to take it all in, just flicked the logical switch inside the brain to assess what was most the important bits to get out first. Once that was done reassessed the situation which had died down a fair bit in those 5 minutes it took loading up the car. Ended up sticking around as the worst of it was roaring away from us up the hill behind neighbours houses, heading towards the getaway exit out of the estate anyways. Staying put just seemed to make more sense at that stage but kept going out checking on things every half hour or so over a five hour period before going to bed.
