I used my Ibanez TS808 on a low volume to provide the rhythm setting and then turned it off for lead, in order to get a decent volume boost. For a 30W tranny amp, it was pretty loud, and for a mid-late '70s tranny amp, didn't sound that bad. And it wasn't too heavy, which was good, as I sometimes had to carry it about 1/2 mile to rehearsals when I was at Uni, on a pretty hilly campus.

Thats nothing I used to have to carry a full Marshall stack 5 miles up a mountain, fight the drop bears, play one song then be back home before 9pm, you tell that to the young people today and they won't believe you.

Hi Dedman, was it a CMG as from your description they were very common in the 1980's and had a carpeted finish all over instead of tolex.

My 1st combo was probably this 50w Marshall 2x12 which I hated. Only bought it as I was fed up with lugging the 100w marshall head and quad box everywhere and figured this would sound as good but not as loud. Only upside was weight factor and 1 piece to lug otherwise it had a thinner sound and lacked the balls of a quad box and was moved on after only 6 months of ownership.

Next combo purchased was a Vox VT40+ a few years ago followed shortly thereafter with a Vox VT80+ which look similar except the 40 has a 10" and the 80 has a 12" therefore cab sizes are slightly different in height & width. Then about a year ago I bought a decent bass combo, a Hartke HD75 which has a 12" speaker. Sounds great and seriously loud for the size of it.

Youngest Son recently took the VT80+ and as I have always wanted an all tube combo bought one of these a month ago. Bugera V5 Infinium Vintage 5W Tube Guitar Amplifier Combo 8-Inch Speaker. Mainly headphone use only at this stage and waiting for a day when nobody is home to give a full on workout.

Btw, there's a couple of really good set-up sets of instructions that are easy to find online - let me know if you have any issues and I'll see if I've got any of the info at home.
